Honestly, after abusing Proctor yet again, I would go with Mo to finish this. How much of a total ass is Mike Kay? "Does that hurt [catching a ML fastball]?" What a total assclown. I can't even think of an all-encompassing word for him.
In all fairness, I think I remember hearing stories about starters who pitched 9 innings every 3 days back in "the old days." Granted, it's been something like 20 years since I was in Cooperstown, but I think I recall that pretty accurately. IIRC pitchers used to pitch both games of double headers as well. It's the modern day prima donnas that don't pitch often. Wouldn't want a blister or anything, you know?
Well, yeah, back in the 1800's there was a guy that threw 680 innings one year. That's what really suprised by about the 200 innings from Marshall, it was relatively recent. He had a pretty long career also, from 67-81, and 7 of those years he threw 99 innings + out of the pen.
Still, he pitched about 2 innings in 2 of every 3 games. Even though the pitcher's arms weren't as sensitive back then, that's still incredible.
Yea tried and not just bought, only the Yankees can fix their problems by getting people for crap while throwing $$$ at them, that's the problem with baseball only 1 team in all of baseball can basically replace $28+ million by adding another $20+ million to the payroll. You don't see the Cardnials replace Pujols when he was injured with a power guy like Dunn/Soriano and trading their 5th best prospect and throwing $$$ at the other team. Only the Yankees can absorb 10s of millions without any consequences.
and we've witnessed the utter destruction of the red sox and the crushed hopes of millions of red sox fans. even if you're the biggest yankee hater around you've got take a little bit of joy in this.
This loss has crashed SoSH. It's been slow following each of their losses this series, but the sweep has totally knocked the server down. :rofl2:
Hating the Red Sox is natural for a New Yorker. As long as the Angel;s make the play offs, all is well for Yankee haters.
I'm not trying to diminish any performance like that. It's fantastic. All I was saying is that it isn't truly unheard of. Not very intelligent, but still possible to do. If I remember correctly, when I was in High School, we watched a training video by Nolan Ryan. I think I remember him saying throughout his career he threw simulated innings every single day of the season, and most of the offseason. Interestingly, he also used a football to perfect his wrist motion. He explained that if you can throw a perfect spiral every time, you can throw a lot of moving fastballs.
