Don't justify Gardner's swing with a "slap" prefix. As for Johnson, I won't bother with a nickname for a guy who is only going to spend 28 games on the active roster this year. But at least his OBP will be .682! Though granted, it will be with only 3 hits.
I'm a Moneyball kind of guy. I don't mind Fish walking a lot. I love guys who can drive the pitch count up (ie Swishers epic at bat v. Okajimi last night). Also, the hitters right behind him, namely, Teix, see more pitchers from the on deck circle. But I agree w. Alio, a little bit, I don't like him at #2 for some reason. Shit I mean, if his OBP is high bat him first and Jeter 2nd. Or bat Cano 2nd and bat Fish 5th or 8th
Cano second? I don't think so. And why would you stick him eighth? The reality is that OBP correlates directly to runs. NickJ has a very high OBP. And he's a good hitter, too. It's not like he's a career .240 hitter with a decent OBP or something. The guy hits. The problem is just whether he can stay healthy. And speed shouldn't matter very much... Although for those of you who are worried about it, there is no better place for him than in front of the two guys (Tex and A-Rod) who have the best SLG on the team, since that lowers the possibility that speed will be needed to score. Sure he might not score on some doubles, but what would you rather have? Second and third with one out and A-Rod up? Or man on second with two outs and A-Rod up? Because that latter scenario will be more likely with a lower OBP guy hitting second.
I just figured out what it is. You guys care more about how things look than how well they work. Gardner's swing isn't pretty, but it works. It gets him on base. NickJ is slow... He doesn't look like a #2 hitter. Joba looks like a reliever, etc. It all makes sense. ETA: This is what I mean about making shit up. You resort to extreme exaggeration or come up with hypothetical situations to make your positions seem like they have more merit than they really do. Nick will hit about .280 this year, and have an OBP (likely) north of .400. Even if we wanted to play along with your silly hypothetical, you're insane if you think an OBP of .682 wouldn't be extremely useful to the Yanks, even if he had zero hits.
So Pettite vs. Lackey tonight. Gotta give the edge to Boston tonight. Hard to believe Pettite is still around.
Andy needs to stop living on the edge. Eventually someone is going to come up with a 2-out hit and plate a few...
Fuck Gardner. He needs to just drag bunt everytime. He is hitting directly to infielders with enough speed on the ball he has no chance to beat it out. He needs to swing bunt or drag bunt. WTF.
PRops to the Yanks dumping Aflac and Geico. I don't think I could take any more of those commercials.
Were down 1-0. Pettitte just plunked Youkilis in the head, Ortiz up with 2 out runners on 1st and 2nd...
