Oh darn, the Sox lost their first of 65-80 games. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Favorite stat of the year so far:

    Nick Johnson

    Batting average - .000
    OBP - .500

    Fantastic.

I was actually quite impressed with the Yanks so far, I've actually gone out of my way to get a few on my fantasy team (I've got 4 of them and trying to aquire Cano as we speak) so I'm not so bitter. (At least until October)

What they've got going in LF would scare me, I'm no fan of Thames but Gardner doesn't quite seem like he's an everyday player (yet). he's got a lot of potential and he seems to have a knack to make things happen once he gets on base. Winn is a nice platoon guy but none of those guys really scream out full time starter.

Aceves is a beast, he looks like he picked right up where he left off last year. I'll take 2 innings and 0 runs plus a W. I'm just curious if they leave him in the role he is in or eventually move him the #5 starter?

After watching the Sox twice I'm not impressed, they have a pretty good top of the order but guys like Drew and Ortiz look like they're done. I've never been a big fan of Beltre and always assumed his big year with the Dodgers was a fluke. Scutaro had a breakout year but my assumption is he'll just go back to the below average player he was up until last year. I really like Cameron, truly one of the more underrated players of the last decade. Their top 4 starters are sick but they certainly are beatable. I thinkl Boston right now is the 3rd best team in that division.

Loved seeing Joba get the job done last night, despite Cappy's disparaging of the performance. He threw some really good pitches and I thought he looked at least as good as at any point since he was injured.

I know stat lovers are adoring Nick Johnson's walk rate right now, but I'm completely disgusted by it. A DH that just walks. Batting second, but can't run. On a team that is horrid with RISP.

Oh, and after seeing Thames last night, I now consider Gardner the better option. Which turns my stomach in knots.

I'm glad Posada and AJ got through that game, but I just can't see them working together all year. There were a few times Burnett glared at Posada last night.

Kay is a douchebag. How much of last night's game did he spend going on and on about how Gardner has to feel slighted by Girardi putting Thames in to start? No matter how many times he was told by Singleton, Leiter or even Kim Jones who heard directly from Gardner, that he was fine with it, he kept harping on it. Mike, you were picked last for kickball. You know nothing about what these guys feel. Now please STFU until the next time you have a ridiculous story about how your teacher bribed you with a Yankee game to touch your scrotum.

Congratulations. You're now in the same league as Tim McCarver. He of the, "He's always clogging up the bases with all those walks" quote.

Johnson will hit. It's been two games. The point of the stat is not that all he can do is walk. The point was that he can still be very valuable to the team even when he's not hitting. If Cano ever goes two games without a hit, his OBP is probably .000 for those two games.

And I'm not sure where you get the idea that the team is "horrid" with RISP. Here is the team line from last year with RISP and overall:

    .272/.370/.433/.803
    .283/.362/.478/.839

    Hardly horrid.

Look, if you don't want to like the guy, fine, I can't stop you. But there's no need to make stuff up.

And incidentally, I don't have a disparaging view of Joba's performance last night. I have a realistic and objective view. He threw better than he did on Sunday night, for sure. He had better movement on his fastball, and looks like he's coming over the top more. His slider also showed flashes of having good bite. Those are all good things. However, his velocity wasn't "old Joba" velocity, despite what some people are going to claim, and he was still wild and rather inconsistent. Beltre helped him out big time by missing that hanging slider and chasing a fastball two feet off the plate. I'm cautiously optimistic about Joba. If he keeps the movement on his fastball, and is more consistent with the slider, he'll do okay. But without that and/or the old velocity, he's quite hittable, as we saw Sunday night.

Nope, not going to happen. Especially when I went back to add the smiley to show the guy I was just ribbing him. If he wants to spend all year with his juncian arguments, well, that's on him.

Anyway, just ftr, Nick Johnson bites pillows for Brett Gardner. *shrug*

    Fishhead.

I agree Thames < Gardner (will not be in Left at trade deadline)

PS How shitty is Gardners' slap swing? It's laughable.
