It's still way too early, various posters have thrown in the towel the last couple of months and while we are in the process of undoing all the good we did w/ the 8 game streak we are still very much in it. Alot will depend on Joba's visit w/ Dr. Andrews but hopefully everything is ok. It would be really nice if we could put some pressure on our opponents w/ our offense instead of being behind early in every game.
Here's the thing. Sure, the Yankees can still pull off a surge and get into the playoffs. It wouldn't be that big a deal, especially if it turns out Joba is okay, which doesn't look good. The problem is, it's just setting them up for another great October collapse. I, for one, am sick and tired of seeing this team fight to get just to play an extra week of ball and go home. They're just not good enough to beat playoff teams in the postseason. Believing otherwise leads to you blaming ARod for the team's October failures. At various points I've said I wanted certain guys back next year. Now I realize that without a roster overhaul, this team isn't capable of sustaining championship-caliber play.
a couple months back you asked why it is that you find yourself hating this team just like last year....I told you because its the same fucking sickening lineup from last year.....an overhaul is needed in deed.....I would love for Jeter to just decide to retire early...damon retires, matsui finally admits hes 44 years old and goes home, giambi isnt even watchable anymore, melky goes back to double A where he belongs and we start all over....
I agree on everything but Jeter. While I bash Jeter mercilessly at this point, I think there's still quality play left in him. I think his hand has been hurt all year, and he just hasn't admitted it. I still kind of like Damon. When he's in the game, he gives 110%. He may not be as good as he once was, but I like seeing guys who leg it out on the basepaths. Matsui is toast. It's time to move on. Giambi was great for a while, and has disappeared since the break. Time to move on with him too. I'm ready to let go of Melky. Christian can play center for the time being. Nady definitely helps the transition in the outfield. I'm also on the fence with Abreu. He started the year hot, went ice cold, and is hot again. Him and Cano infuriate me at times, and have me infatuated at others. What do we do about catcher? I don't know if Posada has anything left in the tank. Pudge can take a hike come winter. Next year we're going to have a vastly different team, and it kind of sucks. It's going to take a while to get this thing rebuilt. There's too many positions of need.
posada obviously cant catch anymore...I thought we should have let him go this past off season...not that he cant hit anymore but we certainly didnt need another DH on this team, plus hes mid 30's. its always better to let a guy go a year early than hang on to him a year or two too long....
Giambi's decline in production neatly coincides with giving his at bats to Richie Sexson, in my opinion.

This year is a little different, I would be ok w/ just making it THIS YEAR. W/ all we have gone through to get back would be a great accomplishment. I think if Joba's injury doesn't keep him out of '09 we'll be set up for a Championship run as early as next year. This isn't like the past few years where we have been good enough to at leats win the ALDS but our bats have hibernated in october, we aren't good enough this year and for this year only I'll be ok w/ an ALDS appearance.
Damn the bullpen is cashed after the last 3 games. Rasner is available for tonight, but he's probably going to start Saturday for Joba... Jeez.
