How about that! So does Mo! Those 20 appearances include 24.2 innings of work. During those appearances, his WHIP is under 1.00 (it's 0.974). What kind of freakish standards are you holding him to? His career whip is 1.042. The sample you provided as evidence to help justify why you are uncomfortable this year (whereas you were not uncomfortable in the past) shows that he is performing above his career average. So why the change of heart? Do you see what I'm getting at here? It seems as though that bad run at the beginning has changed your perception of his recent performances, despite evidence that they're typical Mariano Rivera performances (and in some ways, better than the typical Mo). It's not something inherent in the performances themselves... It's only your perceptions that have changed. Maybe you're focusing on the bad ones more now. Maybe you're noticing them more. Maybe, instead of being surprised when he blows a save or gives up a hit, you're now coming to expect it. Whatever. As I said, that's your prerogative. But although your expectations might alter how you react to what happens in a game or how you feel about a player, I draw a line between experiencing those feelings and automatically assuming that those feelings are accurate and justified reflections of what's happening in the game of baseball.
