I knew Javy for Werth seemed too good to be true. No matter though; they can keep Vazquez around until the trade deadline, and just use it as an excuse to keep Hughes' innings down.

Someone will give the Yankees a nice piece for a proven starter who's about to be a Type A free agent.

Yes, the best record in baseball yet he knows well enough himself that they are hanging on by their fingernails. If he didn't at least recognize that he wouldn't be trying to trade for Lee now and a hitter later. It's not how the Yankees have operated in recent years regarding top pitchers that will be free agents in another few months.

    You. Are. Insane.

The best record in baseball and they're hanging on by their fingernails?

Of course he'd try to trade for Lee. Any GM that didn't try to improve his team with one of the best pitchers in the game should be fired.

Looks like the M's are backing off the deal, though. Oh well. I'm not heartbroken, although it would've been nice.

Yes, they are two games up on TB and 4 on Boston who has most of their team on the DL. You do realize that only two if the three will advance, don't you?

Boston has been getting crazy production from their replacements. When their injured players come back, they're not going to play better than they have been (the past four game slide excepted).

The Yanks have plenty of talent to win without adding Lee.

You're talking like they're bound to slip and fall behind those two. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, coming from you.

Are you high? They've won 6 in a row and they have the best record in baseball. Those are some long ass fingernails they're hanging on by.

Holy shit. The hits just keep on coming!

Seriously, Don, I hope you never lose that extra chromosome. You're far too entertaining.

As far as Lee, I still think it's a decent bet that the Yankees get him. I wouldn't sweeten the pot any more, though.

So the deal wasn't good enough, you wouldn't offer anything more, and you still think he'll be a Yankee?

    DOES NOT COMPUTE.

To clarify, I wouldn't overpay for Lee. He is excellent, but he's not necessary. I don't think it's likely that another team will top the Yankees offer.
Evidently Seattle is having reservations about the secondary pieces of the deal. If someone does offer a superior trade, more power to them.

I think there's a good chance that Seattle will come back and realize that Montero is the best prospect they can fetch. I could be wrong, who knows.

I assume he's saying that Seattle is bluffing that they got a better deal and will come back to the Yanks.

It's hard to imagine that they would get a much better deal than what the Yanks offered. Smoak or Feliz would definitely be comparable (or if both were included, that'd be an insane steal on Seattle's part), but not at such a position of need.

Really, the Yanks were kind of overpaying for a rental, but in their case it made sense because they would have the money to sign him to an extension AND they'd be trading a guy who likely wasn't going to have a solid position on the team for years to come. That's not the case with these other teams.

the Mets, Sox, Angels, Cubs and Dodgers may all be very wealthy teams, but they aren't as wealthy as the Yanks and that difference is what allows the Yanks to simply do more than other teams in acquiring high priced players at the expense of prospects.

    aaaaand I was wrong.
Evidently they like Smoak over Montero.
Or they were that unimpressed with the Yanks other minor leaguers in the offer.

We need bullpen help just as badly as another starter.

Are you delusional too? I thought it was just Cappy. Do you really think a 2 game lead before the break means you have the WS rapped up? Even that fuckin fool Cashman knows better which is why he is trying to do something now while he can.
