Ah yes, you all hate them but the only time the Yankees have ever won anything in recent history is when they have made the decisions.
You know, I'm pretty sure you've been a Yankees fan for a long time, but at times like this, it makes me wonder.
I'm a fan of youth movement building from within whatever you want to call it but, we dropped the ball, Johan could easily be a cy young candidate if his bullpen didnt completely suck . We could have had him for melky who has had an extended audition in which he hit 240 with almost no power. Thats not what i want in my CF. Kennedy who imo is a #3 starter AT BEST. and a guy along the lines of brett gardner who has shown the ability to strikeout wayyyy to much for a contact hitter.
Why do people rewrite history? The deal was always Santana for Hughes, Kennedy, Cabrera, and one more top-level prospect.
Alio, look at the bright side, at least we don't have to invest anymore time in them this year in hopes they make a run at the playoffs, after this weekend, I hate to admit it's a done deal.
Oh it was a done deal a couple weeks ago. That doesn't matter to me though. I'll keep watching until the last pitch is thrown this year. It sucks, but I'm not going to forget that I've seen a lot worse from the Yankees, and I've seen a lot better over the past decade-plus.
Yankees don't need to get back to Steinbrenner ways, they need to get AWAY from them. Lotta good that $160 million salary did you guys.
This season would have been the season to do it, but the Yankees need to blow up. Dump everyone over 35. Blow up that staff and get a real pen. Quit giving away the farm system to rent players for a season or less. Who was the last honest to goodness home grown player to make a huge impact for the Yankees? Jeter?
no, it was originally Kennedy Cabrera and one top level prospect (Gardner, A Jax) but the yankees didnt want to give up Kennedy Cabrera and another top prospect so then they said Hughes and Cabrera and a lower level prospect idk Coke maybe Horne? but the yankees refused to part with hughes. Which i agree with but it didnt pay this year.
That is correct. Hughes was on the table for all of about 48 hours. When he was taken off it became the deal you describe here.
Jeter, Pettitte, Posada, Rivera, Williams...are you kidding? However, you are contradicting yourself. You say get rid of everybody over 35 but don't give away the farm. The farm sucks. Hughes sucks, Kennedy sucks, they all suck. So yes, blow up the staff and go out and replace it with quality starters. The Steinbrenner way.
You're both wrong, but I'm getting really tired of arguing about the same topic that is almost a year old already. The deal was Hughes, Kennedy, Cabrera (except when it was Cano instead), and a top-level prospect. Always. Let me stress that again, always. Hughes doesn't suck. I'm getting tired of having this argument too. Kennedy might suck. He surely hasn't had success. I'll still give him another shot to make the rotation next year. A little run support for him would be nice. The farm doesn't suck. Your attitude does though. Some of us aren't walking away just because the weather is cloudy. Shit happens. Every team has trouble at some point. Few fanbases can be confident that the next year is a new beginning though.
Yeah, I'm with you here. Anyone who could find the energy to type the words "Hughes sucks" and mean it should be excused from any serious discussion. Ian Kennedy - same thing. Here are two guys that HAD to be rushed to the Bronx because of a genuine 2007 need, held their own, and now they're expected to be, what, 17-game winners?
No way you can say Hughes sucks. You can say he's been fragile to this point, but he certainly can't be considered to suck. Kennedy is another story. He does suck.
You are totally wrong. If Hughes was on the table at the end Smith would have jumped at that deal and he has said so.He was never part of the original deal and only added after the Yankees had a CC on a Friday before the winter meetings began. He was there about 48 hours until Steinbrenner pulled him off at midnight Tuesday during the winter meetings. He was never part of any deal again. Get your facts straight. So, he doesn't suck? Describe that term in your own words. This year he went 0-4 with a 9 ERA. How do you explain that? He wasn't hurting then. He can't stay healthy. What good is he? If he has any real value we will find out this winter.
The the cases in which he compared Cashman to Theo are laughable.. Pavano vs. Beckett: Beckett wasn't signed, he was traded for. The Sox gave up top pitching prospect Anibel Sanchez as well as Hanley Ramirez, who in case you haven't noticed, is arguably the best shortstop in the game right now. Pavano, as much of a bust as he's been, only cost $40 mil. Igawa vs. Dice-K: Noone expected the Red Sox to post $52 mil, that's just an outrageous number, and far more than anyone expected. You could argue that Cashman panicked in posting $26 for Kei, but you can't fault him for not getting Dice-K Johnson vs. Schilling: Here, the D-Backs wanted Soriano and Nick Johnson for Schilling, but settled for shit from the Red Sox. And getting Johnson wasn't even that bad. He was solid for the most part, and we traded him for Ohlendorf, who got turned into Nady, who has been pretty good and allows them to get rid of Abreu next year.
