Bruney, perfect inning on 11 pitches to keep the game at 2-1... Vizcaino...Gave up a hit, Bruney didn't...Heh.
I would appreciate it if for the rest of the night u took the time to create series threads series for the rest of the regular season, ALDS, ALCS n World Series
Lovin it, Canue. Melky and Andy team MVPs for that game. Too bad the ChiSox bullpen is so bad that they blew it again tonight with Garko tying it up for Cleveland.
Last night was an exciting game. These are the kinds of games I've come to expect from this team. Hard fought till the end. Just flat out fun. It's awesome we walked out with a win. Still have to keep this up though. How rough does life have to get for Andy before some good luck shines his way? The guy can't buy wins. He pitches his ass off, and never gets a W. Viz is the man. Bruney is great too. I'm done trying to hope Farnsworth will come around. Here's my only issue. I was listening to the game last night on 880, and they were talking about Giambi and Dougie coming back in August. Now I can understand the arguments in favor of Giambi. Things like RBI, and plate patience, but here's the problem: who sits? If you make Giambi the DH, Damon goes back into center, and Melky hits the bench. If you put Giambi at first, you lose Phillips' glove. As for Mienky, you get the better glove, but you sacrifice the things at the plate Phillips has been doing. Haven't the Yankees learned anything from last year? Just because a guy is healthy enough to return doesn't make it a good idea. At some point, don't they need to stick with the lineup that's winning ballgames? I'm curious to hear you guys' takes on this. Do you think I'm off-base? Would we see a significant improvement by the return of either Doug or Jason? Obviously, we're all looking forward to the return of Hughes, but that's quite a different situation.
I completely agree. That is what turned me against Joe last year. He had a lineup that was winning ball games and playing very well together, but once Matsui & Sheffield came back from injury he instantly plugged that back in and screwed up all the chemistry that the team had. In my opinion, Joe should stick with the lineup he has, that is playing very good, fundemental, gritty baseball (just what the Yankees need). You HAVE to leave Melky in CF, he provides a great spark both in the field and in the lineup. Andy Phillips has been superb in the field, and has been doing extremely well at the plate. I believe he is hitting .300 and he has come through in the clutch many times lately. Personally, I hope that Giambi doesn't come back and play. If he is put at DH, then we are either forced to play Damon in CF or bench him (i would prefer the bench). If he [Giambi] is put at 1B then we lose Phillips glove & bat from the lineup, but keep Damon DHing (is that really a good thing with the way he's been playing though?). As for Minky, I like him, but it doesn't look like there is room on the roster for him anymore. Sorry bud. ---------------------------- As for Hughes, can't wait. So long Kei Igawa. -------------------------------------------------- Updated Wild-Card Standings: Code: Team W L PCT GB Cleveland 55 38 .591 - Seattle 52 39 .571 2.0 Minnesota 49 44 .527 6.0 NY Yankees 47 44 .516 7.0
I like what I've seen from Phillips so far, but truthfully, I'm not sure his bat will keep it up. Hitting or no, though, I think he's a better option than Dougie. I hate to say things like this, but my ideal situation would have Damon finally being injured enough that he realizes he NEEDS to go on the DL, and Giambi can just replace him, while Dougie rides the pine.
Honestly, my ideal situation involves Damon finally realizing he's done, and takes an extended trip to the DL (then again, according to him, the Yankees refused to DL him, and wanted him playing, even if at 80%, so it may not even be his own fault.) I don't want Giambi back either. First off, I don't have any respect for him, as he is a cheater. I've been vocal about how I want all cheaters banned from the sport, but that's mostly irrelevant now. I want Matsui to DH. He makes far too many plays appear exciting. Let Thompson have a regular shot at left, and see what happens. If it were up to me, without any trades going down, here is what I would make my starting lineup: Jeter SS Abreu RF Posada C ARod 3B Matsui DH Cano 2B Phillips 1B Thompson LF Cabrera CF I'd put Cabrera in the leadoff spot, and move Posada to 5th, but Melky just doesn't have enough patience. In a perfect world, we'd be able to acquire Crawford and Teixeira and just replace Matsui in left, moving him to DH, and Phillips could replace Cairo as the utility man. (Not that I have anything against Cairo, but I have more confidence in Phillips long-term.) I refuse to give up Hughes for anyone though. (Unless somehow Cashman managed to get Manny to replace Matsui, and Pujols to replace Giambi/Mienky/Phillips. In that case, I'd give up Hughes, and half the farm. But that's about as big a pipe dream as I can come up with.)
