That is absolutely insane. He's under their control already, they don't have to give him basically the same deal John Lackey got.
agreed. Lincecum is getting $11.5M/year right now, after having a far more impressive resume/career than Hughes has to this point. I could see a 5 year/$50M contract, or something around there. It would be good for both Hughes and the Yankees. He would enter FA at his age 29 season, and would have plenty of money in his pocket and could be looking at a ton more money
Comparing Lincecum to Hughes is not fair right now. Hughes is due for abritration in 2 seasons right? Assuming this, he will have 3 full seasons of starting pitching, the same as Lincecum will have after this season. If Hughes keeps up what he is doing now, he will have surpassed Lincecum's stats in a stronger division. But I understand using Lincecum as the barometer for the ballpark of a contract.
Alright, forget my numbers then. There's no way he gets 50 million then He prob gets in the 4/yr 40 range
It's arb-eligible after three years of service. Free agency after six. I'm not sure that makes much sense, either. If the Yanks are looking to sign him to an extension, I doubt they would want to do it and only buy out one year of his post-arb years. At that point, they're not gaining much over just keeping him cost controlled via arbitration. You'll usually see them buy out two years (like Cano's extension). And with someone like Hughes, I could see them offering a third year, with a little boost in the AAV to make it worth his while (on top of the fact that he'd be guaranteed a lot of money).
Still too high I think. For reference, Jon Lester signed a 5/30 deal that bought out his arbitration years and one more after that (plus an option year) and is a far more accomplished pitcher than Hughes.
At the time Lester signed the extension, he really wasn't, though. He had had two mediocre half seasons with spotty command of his pitches, and one very good season under his belt. Sure, he had other stuff going on that might have caused the poorer seasons, but it'd still a stretch to call him more accomplished if Hughes has a comparably good year. If Hughes continues to pitch as well as he has (I think we can all agree he's not likely to finish with a 1.38 ERA, though), then he'll be just as, if not more, accomplished than Lester.
This series was crazy. I half-expected to get swept, and it almost happened. But not for the reason I thought. We got generally good pitching, but no one hit save the one game. Granderson's absense is hurting us a lot right now. Thames and Winn as everyday players borders on heartbreaking. (Though Winn has been getting on base.) There is still no definitive timetable for either Granderson or Johnson to return. Cashman needs to start picking up the phone and see if there are any options out there.
This is what happened last year. Once May hit, everyone slumped and Teixeira carried the team for 2 months.
The hitting in this past series was pretty god awful, I wont say the pitching was bad but CC could have pitched better. Its an annoying series to loose because its 4 games and the first game was a heart breaker. We need to take two from the Twins because the schedule looks tough after that
CC gets a huge pass from me right now. He's a traditionally slow starter who has pitched like an ace all year so far. A rough outing isn't going to make me say anything negative about him right now. Hopefully the home stand will get things back in motion. Anyone know if CHP is still on track to rejoin the team this weekend?
