I don't recall anyone here claiming Bard was the best in baseball, but he was very good. In terms of stuff he was one of the best in baseball after his first pitch. Besides, is it realy so unreasonable for a fanbase to get excited about a young reliever who throws 100 MPH wth a plus breaking ball? Not that it matters now, as he has become one of the best in the game. Just like with Ellsbury's power, sometimes scouting takes precedence over stats. He had some of the best stuff in baseball, it was perfectly logical to predict that he'd be one of the best relievers.
