I'm surprised that Rivera is acting the way he is. He obviously knows this won't be an issue, the Yankees are going to re-sign him. Weird.

I don't see it as weird. After the Bernie situation, I'd probably feel the same if I were him. Who knows what Cashman is thinking. He may want to just clean house, save for Derek, and just start bringing up the prospects next year.

So now that this fat asshole francessa is gonna talk about Rivera all day.....Lets talk more about it...Hes saying the Yankees should just give Rivera a blank check so he stays. fine.Hes yelling and screaming about whos gonna replace Rivera.....great. But the bottom line is whether its this year or the next or possible the next one after that, we have to replace Rivera. How is life gonna be without his ass? Who is going to be our next closer?

I'm not all that worried about life after Rivera. Mo seems to believe he's got at least 3 more years in his arm. I'll take that. And if he were to retire right now, I would have no problem putting Farnsworth in the spot.

But a year, possibly as much as 3, is a lot of time to worry about that. Keep Mo, problem solved for the foreseeable future.

So you think Cashman is purposely trying to piss off the best closer in MLB history just so he can go with a prospect next year?

Come on, now. This whole not negotiating with Rivera during the Spring is being blown way out of proportion because it's the middle of February and nothing else is going on in Yankee land. Let's not get crazy. Bernie was a poor overall player for the last few years, Rivera is still an elite reliever. No possible way to link the two, at all.

reading the articles it doesn't sound nearly as bad as the headlines(as usual). Mo deserves the respect and they'll work it out. I am confident about that.

I wasn't trying to say that. I was just saying Mo may be coming at it from a different angle.

I didn't even say Cashman wouldn't agree with Mo. I just don't like dangling him. Bernie was one thing, Mo is a whole different story.

Agreed... I'd give him a signed blank check and let him fill it out

Article about Rivera, and how Cashman's running the team the right way (something George didn't do).

We have a bright future if Cashman keeps control of this team.

I will take the opposite stance on Rivera just for getting the other side out.

There are 3 reasons why I understand Cashmans reluctance to work on a deal for Rivera in ST and to wait.
    1. He is 37 years old
    2. Recent elbow issues
    3. Length of time as a closer.

Mo will require a boat load of $$ to re-sign. Giving him a "blank check" is not a fiscal solution.
Lets just say that Cash does give him his blank check in April and then Mo has elbow problems again and misses 3 months, he comes back and just isnt the Mo that we all know.
How many people will be calling this a horrible move.
Yes, Mo had another great season, but he clearly wasnt the Mo of old.
10 years of closing with each year stretching to Oct/Nov has taken its toll on Mo and I think Cashman is handling this correctly.
