He definitely has the stuff, and it seems that he also has the mental build-up. Almost any report you see will mention that he is "extremely mature for his age". Now for his stuff. His fastball hits 95mph, and I have seen his curve get as low as 75. He has the best rated curve according to Baseball America, and he only learned it last year. Prior to that he used a slider instead. The Yankees asked him to cut back on it, so now he only uses it situationally. He is also developing a change up, and according to him it is not very effective.
This is probably the best free site you'll find: http://www.yankeesprospects.com/ PinstripesPlus.com is the best site, but you have to pay.
They probably have it on the pay one, I was looking more for scouting reports and such. Although it does say "Stay tuned" for scouting reports, so maybe as ST approaches they'll put some up.
A source close to Roger Clemens said this week that the Rocket is leaning toward not having a final re-launch, but it is only the first week of January. The Yankees want him in a big way. Clemens' agent, Randy Hendricks, wrote last night in an e-mail to the Post: "Nothing has changed on Roger. First, he has to decide whether he will play. If he decides to play, then he will have to decide upon the team, which would be either New York, Boston or Houston. If he does play, it will likely be for a shortened season. I do not expect anything to happen on this matter any time soon."
Randy Johnson-S- Yankees Jan. 8 - 9:05 pm et The Diamondbacks have called a 3 p.m. EST news conference on Tuesday to announce the acquisition of Randy Johnson. ESPN is reporting that he passed his physical. Johnson will make $26 million over the next two years after agreeing to a one-year extension with the Diamondbacks. His new deal calls for a $12 million signing bonus, of which $3.5 million is payable this year, $500,000 in 2008, and $4 million each in 2009 and 2010. He gets salaries of $4 million this year and $10 million in 2008. As part of the trade, New York would pay $2 million of Johnson's salary this year.
Things have taken a turn for the worse for Bobby Murcer. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/487471p-410461c.html
I hope for the best for bobby but things don't look good so for his sake I hope he goes rather quickly so he suffers less.
I saw on the news either yesterday or the day before, he released a statement saying he's fighting, and thanking everyone for their well-wishes and prayers. I don't think he is giving up without a fight. It's amazing how sad something like this can make you for someone you don't honestly even know.
true Alio, but watching him all those years and now almost every yankee game makes you feel like you dkno ow him......I even feel like I know you even though youre just some imaginary fat guy(probably very gay) on the other end of the net
Invitees to spring training: Yankees invited C Todd Pratt, INF Andy Cannizaro, INF Angel Chavez, C Raul Chavez, RHP Tyler Clippard, C Ben Davis, INF Eric Duncan, OF Brett Gardner, RHP Phil Hughes, RHP Steven Jackson, LHP Ben Kozlowski, INF Ramiro Pena, RHP Ross Ohlendorf, C Peter Pilittere, C Omir Santos, OF Jose Tabata, INF Marcos Vechionacci, RHP Kevin Whelan, and RHP Steven White to spring training. Good to see the kids getting a chance. Along with the pitchers, I am looking forward to seeing Marcos Vechionacci in ST. He has been hyped for the last few years and was even ranking in Baseball America's top 100 prospects a couple of years ago.
Jeff Nelson retires as a Yankee. From Rotoworld: Yankees announced the retirement of RHP Jeff Nelson. Because MLB needs to be more like the NFL, Nelson first signed a minor league deal with the Yankees and then made the announcement. The 40-year-old Nelson had a 3.41 ERA in 798 career appearances, all of them coming out of the pen. He spent 16 seasons in the majors, six with the Yankees and eight with the Mariners.
Don't get too excited about Vechionacci. He hasn't done anything so far in his professional career to prove he is anything but hype. I'm surprised he actually got an invite.
Here's a clip of Humberto Sanchez (prospect we received from Detroit in Sheffield trade) in the Futures Game last year. He strikes out Stephen Drew (top 5 prospect in MLB), gets a ground out from Howie Kendrick (top 10 prospect in MLB), and strikes out Alex Gordon (arguably top prospect in MLB). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oopqybAcj9k
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2732682 Sources: Yankee Stadium to host '08 All-Star Game By Buster Olney ESPN The Magazine Yankee Stadium will be the site of the 2008 All-Star Game, sources in baseball said, in the last year of the ballpark. The new Yankee Stadium is scheduled to open in 2009, and old Yankee Stadium closed, 86 years after the ballpark was first built in 1923, and 33 years after the ballpark was remodeled on the same site in 1976. With the All-Star Game slated to be in an AL park in 2008, officials chose Yankee Stadium for the site, believing it to be an appropriate way to usher out the historic building. The All-Star Game has been held in Yankee Stadium three times previously, the last time in 1977. An announcement on the selection of Yankee Stadium is expected in the days ahead, perhaps next week, with Major League Baseball coordinating with the Mayor's office in New York. Next summer's All-Star Game will be played in San Francisco, and on Monday night, Commissioner Bud Selig formally announced that the 2009 All-Star Game will be played in St. Louis. Buster Olney is a senior writer at ESPN The Magazine.
Wow!! My dad promised me were going to the All-Star game when it comes to Yankee Stadium....Awesome News MM.
