I completely understand the 16 million thing.....which, like I said until that 16 million becomes a player what the hell do I care if the yanks save 16 mil....as far as opening a spot, ok, lets see who steps in , then we can see whether or not we're better for it...look, I wanted to see this shitpile go, I just think we're getting a little too giddy right now considering, at this exact time I feel we are a lesser team for making this trade......plenty potential to be better because of it I agree, but for now, lets relax...make sense?
Awesome! Now let's get Roger in here and be on our way to domination. MatsuWHO? Wow, that would be some double deal there. Jonnyd, we did get better. Sure, you're right on that Randy still won games, but he was a malcontent in the clubhouse. Making Jorge basically suck on his colon for more than a year before giving him the "privledge" to catch for him pissed me off. Plus, by dropping that $16M, we now have the cash to bring in Clemens for a year while our farmhands get ready for 2008. I view this deal as a total win for the Yankees organization.
Right this second: Damon CF Jeter SS Abreu RF Giambi DH A-Rod 3B Matsui LF Cano 2B Posada C Mientkiewicz/Wilson/Phillips/Phelps 1B Wang Mussina Pettitte Igawa Pavano Britton Vizcaino Myers Bruney Proctor Farnsworth Rivera I highly doubt that will be our final bullpen, and Igawa/Pavano may not be in the rotation for very long. Still, that's not bad for now.
Not bad? That looks pretty good to me. The only holes I see are in the 9 hole, and the 5th spot in the rotation. Hopefully Igawa will pitch decently. With this lineup, that should be enough. The only weak spot in the pen right now would be Myers, and that's only because Torre won't let him pitch to more than one batter. Joe needs to wake up this year.
Just heard on WFAN... Johnson trade is offical pending a physical... don't know if it's been posted yet
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2720413 Didn't see this posted. I was hoping for an extra minor league arm though
You've gotta love the return we got for Johnson, who is essentially worthless. With Britton, Bruney and Vizcaino we now have nice depth in our bullpen (which should greatly improve Scott Proctor's performance.) Now we just need to get Clemens back here and our rotation will be fine.
C-Ya Randy. At least this failed deal didnt cost us that much. I so cant wait for Hughes first ML start this year.
Looks like you didn't get nearly as much in return (talent wise) as some thought, but you also didn't pay much $$.
I'm not sure why people always throw Linebrink's name into trade rumors, San Diego would never deal him unless they were getting an absolute steal (like the Manny Ramirez rumors, for example.)
I just read a rumor from yesterday on Foxsports that said that the Padres were willing to deal Linebrink and a prospect if we payed some of Johnson's salary.
There's a 99.9% chance that Linebrink was in the Padres "final offer" that Alderson was talking about. Kouzmanoff, however, was not in the deal (if he was, the Yankees would've been all over it.)
If Scott Linebrink (who would instantly be the best pitcher in our bullpen not named Rivera) was offered for Randy Johnson and Cashman instead took Luis Vizcaino and a group of mediocre prospects, then Cash made a grave mistake.
