The Yankees had the better record going into the last game. The Yankees, not the awful Mets, the Yankees.
Damon Jeter Abreu Posada Giambi Matsui Cano All started the last game of the season. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2006/B10010NYA2006.htm
And just about were all taken out. Listen, the Yankees had the better record and then the last week just took it easy. And in a far superior league. All the Mets did was watch Beltran take strike 3.
We had the same records last year but the Mets record was built on beating up weak NL teams while the Yanks did it in the superior AL.
All the Yankees did was get bounced in the DS again, while the Mets made it to a game 7 of the NLCS and lost to the world champs.
You tell me, you clearly think the Yanks accomplished something by playing a whole season in a superior league.
Yep, how can we compete w/ the mighty Mets. We might as well raise the white flag and not even show up. If it's yankee week it must be the most exciting time of the year again for Met fans.
What did the Mets accomplish last year? they played in the biggest joke of a league the majors have seen in a long time and were clearly the best team yet didn't even make it to the WS. Our team was a failure last october as well but you don't get a trophy for advancing one series further although in the eyes of met fans the very rare tims they finish later than the Yanks they feel like they have won a Championship.
Who is running scared? I feel good about the yanks, the pitching is coming around and it's only a matter of time before the bats heat up again. Remember we were dead and buried each of the last 2 years around this time and you still couldn't win the season series as you have only done that once in 10 years.
Junc, 21-15 on May 15th 2006 1.0 games back from the Sox was "dead and buried"? http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2006/05152006.htm Too easy....:breakdance:
Well, then I guess its your prerogative to feel the Yanks got "hot" and "lucky" in something like the 12 consecutive World Series games they won. Sure looked to me like they were the best team.
Except for Arod and Jeter, the rest of the Yankees are either fat, injured, past their prime, or just suck. The Yankees are DONE - put it in the books.
