I don't see Mahomes making it to 24, in your scenario I would think it makes more sense to take Mahomes at 11 and hope that McCaffery makes it to 24, although I'm not a huge fan of picking him and think there would be better options at 24 either way. Like both your OLB picks and have no problem doubling down at that position. Don't think there is any way that Jones makes it that far, injury and all. Although with the draft so deep at CB I guess there could be a chance. He's just too damn talented, I see him as the Jaylon Smith of this draft and still going way higher than expected.
I like your creativity and your supporting logic, but the first question that came to me was: Why would NO give up the 11 & 32 picks for our 6? What is that they want/need so badly they would do that? If they would though I think that's a great trade. I too like McCaffrey, but I don't like him enough to risk losing out on Mahomes, especially since there will probably be other RBs available later, whereas there won't be other QBs of Mahomes ability. So in keeping with your trades and the resulting draft picks, at 24 I would take Harris from Missouri, thus filling the two biggest needs, QB and pass rusher. At 39 I would take Mixon, thus really amping up the offense, and helping whoever the QB is. At 89 I'd like to find a S, but there may be more talent available at CB at this point, so while Sidney Jones is intriguing, I don't think the Jets have the luxury of waiting for him to heal, so maybe take WItherspoon from CU. After this, I cant argue against the rest of your picks since they all fill needs and who knows who will actually be available? But if the Jets draft wound up exactly you listed, I would be happy.
I can't argue the Saints desires, just simply point out they are one of the top teams in terms of trading up, they've traded up in the first round 5 times under Mickey Loomis, and since 2007 have made 13 draft pick trades, none of which have been down. There definitely is an uncertain projection here in choosing them as the Jets partner, and really I was more concerned with what the Jets were getting out of this. I completely understand the logic about flipping the two picks and frankly, if the Jets believe Mahomes really is THE GUY, then how can they not take him at 11? It's a fair criticism. In regards to McCaffrey, I get the feeling he's very underrated by many here. He's as explosive as Cook and Fournette and can hit a home run every single time he touches the ball. I understand that he's not going to be a 30 carry per game kind of runner, I don't envision that as his role. However, he has had the productivity to show that when acting as a runner he can do the job well both inside and outside the tackles. I think McCaffreys floor is a better version of Darren Sproles. Honestly if that's how he ended up, it'd be a disappointment as I believe he's capable of being so much more. He will need to be paired with another RB but that is the vast majority of teams in the NFL. I doubt the Falcons are disappointed with their RB duo. He's the sort of player that can be an every down player without being an every down back. I'd absolutely take OJ Howard before McCaffrey but I don't think he'll get to 11. If the Jets take Mahomes at 11 or wherever, I don't see McCaffrey getting anywhere near the mid 20s. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
First, I wasn't trying to criticize. If that's how it came across, I was just curious if you knew of some reason why the Saints would do that. I can see why Cleveland might want to, after grabbing Garrett, they could grab their QB, but I don't know enough about NO to see a similar motivation, so I was curious that's all. And if they took McCaffrey - after having gotten Mahomes - I wouldn't complain. As I said I do like him and his intangibles a lot, but I doubt he'll still be there at 24. I love Howard too, but I would take Mahomes ahead of him also, and he won't last past 11, if even that far. In short, I think they need their FQB and a great pass rusher first and foremost. After that, anything they can upgrade is good.
I didn't know the Saints had traded up that much in the last decade. Now I better understand how they could have gone 7-9 4 out of the last 5 years with Drew Brees as QB. They think they're geniuses at making draft picks...
I didn't think you were being critical in a negative sense. I'm just really bad at communicating. I'm with you on the FQB. It has to happen at some point, especially now that the Jets are as bad as they are.
This is not the year to take a QB in the first round. Not saying next year will be, but it's definitely not this year. I love the idea of trading down but not if it means taking a QB in the first two rounds.
