It's hard enough to make a mock and than predict FA. I went with BPA with common sense on needs. The only thing I mentioned was I based it on Cro not returning, that's why I addressed CB toward the top of the draft.
Asking Odell Beckham to be a #1 WR is a real stretch. He was never the #1 at LSU. What's going to happen when he's the go-to guy and defenses are concentrated on shutting that down? He's a Bradway-esque #1 pick, although not a reach at the same level Stephen Hill was in round 2.
Thats not true i think Benjamin is boom or bust too. The safe picks IMO are Watkins, Cooks, Adams, Robinson and Mathews
I wouldn't be shocked if the JETS drafted Beckham in the first round. He brings an added dimension to special teams and the JETS did get his old special team coach from LSU.
Well first off he is a track guy... His Mom was a track star in fact. I think he is boom or bust because there just isn't that much tape on him catching the football. He has 102 catches over 2 YEARS!!! There are players that have 100+ catches this past season. That really worries me... To not take that into consideration is foolish. He also got soft coverage in plenty of spots due to Landry but didn't get the ball... BUT thats not entirely his fault... The QB had a lot to do with that IMO. To say he is polished is negligent because there just isn't enough tape to support your claim. I watched all 59 catches and he has great speed, body control and hands but there simply isn't enough of it. At 18 i wouldnt be upset at all if we took Beckham because i like boom or bust picks but to think he's a safe pick is wrong.
If Beckham can do what Cruz has done at the next level i would take him in a heartbeat! but to say thats a slam dunk? Not sure about that.
Oh and for the record just because Mettenberger's last name is similar to Big Ben doesn't make him a similar player lol I dont see that comparison AT ALL!!!! He has a similar frame and name thats it!!! Mett doesn's have a fraction of the patience BB has in the pocket. His arm isn't close to BB, his down field vision not even close and his ability to overpower defenders in the pocket not even close. He is a poor mans Flacco if anything...
Your draft was well thought out and dont think i am being negative. Besides the Mettenberger pick i really like it for the Jets.
i like it ... i have beckham (liked him pre-combine, as well) and mettenberger in the same spots in my draft i went with different needs in other spots tho
I would love this draft WW85! Beckham has checked all the boxes so far....production in a major conference, timed and playing speed, one of best performers in short shuttle and 3 cone, huge hands, long arms, got better every year, looked great catching the ball at the combine, kick return success. His only knock is lack of prototypical size. I have him as my #3 WR (Watkins, Evans). I really like Buchanon and Mettenberger too. We need a playmaking safety. For the person who spoke about lack of production, didn't bambi have only 49 receptions in his whole college career? ~50 catches a year for three years is plenty of production for me especially in a Pro style offense.
I don't think you're being negative at all, we strongly agree to disagree about Beckham. IMO, I believe you post some comments that aren't supported with enough research. Beckham is a football player that has God given talent to run fast. Beckham is not a track star on the football field. He has terrific hands, very elusive and was a leader in all purpose yards. You may not remember or known a player in the early 80's the Jet's drafted...Johnny Lam Jones, he was a track star that attempted to be a football player. Beckham has always been a football player. Mettenberger would be a steal in Rd 4, if he was healthy he would be considered a 1st Rounder.
Hill was a project, and most of the NFL realized it, that's why he fell into Rd 2 after being hyped as a 1st rounder. Tanny has gambled on projects......Vlad another example. Beckham isn't a project and even before the Combine was a late Rd 1 player. LSU didn't have a #1 WR. They had complimentary players that worked well in their system. How many NFL teams truly have an #1 Elite WR, not many. I can name about 8 teams with Elite "#1 WRs". I really hate the term #1 WR. The Jets need play makers and Beckham is a play maker. You bring in 3 players like Ebron, Beckham, Matthews, Cooks, Adams, Ellington, Archer and the Jets don't need a "#1 WR". Jet's need play makers that create mismatches.
I wasn't speaking to you, sorry if I hit a nerve. I was making a point there are some in this forum that make up stuff as they go along. I've been around too long to put up with nonsense. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt and don't say much until they get out of hand. When someone continues to post without any thought, I will eventually address it. Trust me, I'm usually easy going around here, I let a lot crap slip thru the cracks. If you post on a messageboard be prepared to be called out. I always support my POV, we can disagree, but at least show me why you support your POV. You have only been around a short time, a few years ago there were a few people that were ruthless in this forum.
I mean all he was saying was Beckum knows how to run because of his mother. Im sure he had the best training. The best times are a combo of world class speed and a good start. Track guys just know how to run!
Most Knowledgeable? I hope you gave yourself that title lol He was the WR that opponents feared. Defensive coaches used their best corner on him not Landry.
well he is doing a lot of rising from late first to eighteen because of his track speed just a few weeks back, didnt you have Jordan Matthews as the guy we needed? His 40 was impressive too!
Well like i said before I think he has talent and all the tools and do like the player. Having said that i strongly feel that his body of work is very limited. He only had 59 catches last year and only 43 the year before that... This really worries me because there isnt enough tape on the kid to make him a slam dunk! This is why i feel he is boom or bust because its hard to gauge what kind of prospect he is. On tape Landry looked to be the go to guy and Beckham was more the big play guy. At times it looked like his routes were poorly executed and thats why he wasnt getting the ball.
