Williams could rise, but there's quite a few safeties rated higher than him at this time. IMO, TJ Ward was a big reach by Cleveland, granted he's having a nice year, but he could have been available in Round 4.
i understand that, I just am not a big fan of drafting for depth in the second round when we need players at other positions. This isn't a team without talent, theoretically, its a team on the cusp that needs a few additions to put it over the top. Obviously if Reynolds is the best player on the board by a wide margin, he should be the pick. But I would like to see Ducasse get a shot at starting (if the CS thinks he can) rather then draft another 2nd round OT in back to back years, only to see one relegated to depth duty for the next 3-4 years. In the second round we should be drafting for future starters, it doesn't always happen, but that is the goal. Otherwise, it's a good mock, and a great effort for early december.
Is a right tackle that needs to "bulk up some" really the answer to the weak running game? I understand trading up has left us without much depth but how much more prepared in 2011 would Matt Reynolds be to play RT then Vlad or Wayne Hunter?
If you had to pick between the 3 for RT, I'd most definitely take Reynolds. I've completely written off any chances of Wayne Hunter being a starter after this year, and I think Vlad still needs another year to get acquainted with the level of talent in the NFL. He can't manhandle people now, they are as strong as him, but faster too. Reynolds has OT experience at a FBS school, and a move to RT would be relatively easy for a fairly smart person like Reynolds. He has a wicked punch, one of the best I've seen in a while. Only negative is his footwork, he gets sloppy at times, but I think he could get some slack at RT...
Hunter played well against the Steelers.. He wasn't perfect but he maintained his duties enough for us to get a solid run game and helped us to a win. I don't think they drafted Vlad in the 2nd round, just for him to ride the bench with his tenure with the Jets. I agree depth is always good, but we don't need to be drafting for depth in the first two rounds especially. It would be a different story if we were getting good production out of our top picks in recent years, but we really haven't. We have to shoot for some players that can make an impact soon after. The Patriots always seem to draft players that contribute from day 1. You have to keep the course with that or we will find ourselves right back where we were.... Being the good team that is always one step behind the Patriots. I'm tired of it. Their coaching staff is amazing, but having players that can step in day one really, really makes it that much easier for them. Gotta keep the course with them.
