Mr E's idea is interesting trading up for a wideout, I need to see how this season unfolds before I trade multiple high draft picks to have a shot at Jeffery or Blackmon (I'd prefer Jeffery). We have to see where we are slotted in 2012's draft, moving up from 28-32 would cost a King's Ransom to the top 8 to get those WRs. There is no question Sanchez will need some fresh, young talented WR added to our 2012 roster. This team is built around Sanchez and he won't be effective without playmakers. Plax and Mason are quick fixes, although I think Mason will surprise and have a better year than Plax. Kerley is in a great position to be the future #3 slot receiver. The Jet's need to address the #2 WR in next year's draft or Free Agency. That's why I'm thinking Sanu, Fuller or Floyd would be less costly (Picks) options. Rex is banking Westerman, maybe he'll pan out, but I agree a Pass rush OLB has to be a priority. IF we trade our 2nd & 3rd picks to move up for a WR, it will be difficult to find pass rush help later. Pass rushers are so hard to find, especially in FA, nobody wants to give them up.
It would cost a lot in terms of draft picks, but money wise, it could be a very good decision for this franchise. ...especially if the player selected works out. I'm a huge Alshon Jeffery fan, but I feel like Justin Blackmon would be a better compliment to Santonio Holmes. Blackmon's more of a vertical threat and he's better over the middle. If the Jets stay put and take a receiver, I'd like Ryan Broyles. I know he's not the kind of receiver that most fans are looking for (big bodied, possession WR) but I think he'd be a hell of a fit in Schottenheimer's offense. Out of all of the 2012 wideout prospects, I feel like Broyles is the most NFL ready.
As far as cost, I wasn't refering to money, the new CBA has made high draft picks affordable. The cost to move up into the top 10 is going to be high, but Tanny has made those moves in the past. I've been a huge Ryan Broyles fan, he almost declared last year. I think you're right he's not on the radar of mosy Jet fans since he doesn't have the physical size we may be looking for in a WR. Right now, I think Broyles is at best an early Rd 2 prospect.
I have him as my #3 receiver behind Alshon Jeffery and Justin Blackmon. If Broyles puts up 100+ catches again, he should be a first rounder. He'll run well too, so that won't hurt him. If I had to put together a top five wideout list today, it'd probably look like this: 1. Justin Blackmon 2. Alshon Jeffery 3. Ryan Broyles 4. Jeff Fuller 5. Juron Criner I like Michael Floyd and Mo Sanu, but... Floyd is a suspension waiting to happen, especially after Brian Kelly let him off so easily. I think he'll fall into the second round unless he absolutely dominates this season. Sanu has tons of potential, but he's really gonna have to show something to warrant first round grade. Rutgers' offensive staff has used him in a lot of weird ways and it's hurt his growth as a receiver.
I don't understand though Mr. E Why is Floyd such a risk coming off his DUI when Justin Blackmon got caught for the same exact thing in 2010, except he did his In-Season ? Blackmon has as many question marks on character as Floyd does IMO. Both are going to have to step up come the interview process. I would take Floyd over Broyles just because of size but I really think Broyles could be a very steady No.2 possession reciever throughout his career. Don't think he has the freakish ability or true speed to be a team's no.1. Floyd ability wise has been ready since the end of his sophomore year but I do think he will need 1 NFL season to get his route running down to pat....like what Bowe needed in KC. The only worry about his producting falling is if Crist/Rees don't play up to par and step up as the Irish QB...outside of that, I really expect Floyd to dominate the season. He has been on a whole another level of play since his Sophomore year out on the field and Clausen destroyed teams using Floyd.
You know, I had almost an entire reply written out and I decided that it's pointless to argue with you over prospects that you like. I will ask you this though: I noticed you said you'd take Floyd over Broyles because of his height/weight. In 2001, six wideouts were taken in the first round. First, I'm going to list them, in order of their draft spot, but I'm only going to give you their height and weight. 1. 6'2 216 2. 6'1 205 3. 6'2 215 4. 5'10 185 5. 5'11 184 6. 6'0 190 If we're evaluating prospects your way, the first three guys are the best... ... ... ... Here they are by name: 1. David Terrell 2. Koren Robinson 3. Rod Gardner 4. Santana Moss 5. Freddie Mitchell 6. Reggie Wayne I don't know about you, but I'd rather have Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne over all of those guys. (Also, Justin Blackmon is better than Michael Floyd...that's why he's less of a risk)
A couple of real good WRs with good size nobody is talking about: Dwight Jones, North Carolina & Jermaine Kearse, Washington. Both players aren't in the class of Jeffery and Blackmon, but have been productive and are good red zone targets.
Kearse and Chris Polk are going to be either completely forgotten by the mainstream or embraced as those who picked up the post-Locker pieces for that Washington team. Either way they're both really talented football players with top 2 round potential.
I have a feeling Washington is going to be better off without Jake Locker. I think Sark is going to run a dual QB system - Keith Price is more a runner and Montana fits his pro-style offense. They're certainly not going to contend for a PAC-12 title, but they could upset a few teams.
If that draft ends up that way itd be great. If Sanu is anything like Anquan Boldin as GU mentioned before then he's definitely the type that can fit into this offense. Lindley, the fact that he was a former lb helps watched some video on him and he's solid definitely in that 2nd round range. As for the rest of the draft, idk about cb in the 3rd be pretty much a waste of a pick for a nickel corner even though Rex does love him some corners.I like the safety pick and as for the rb again im good im gud with what we have here already in Greene ,Mcknight and Powell.
We all know I'd be in favor of the Lindsey pick. I'm not sure how I feel about Sanu in the first. He's not very polished and I don't know if he'd be able to step in and start from day one. I'd have to see how he developed this year for Rutgers and how Kerley develops. As you said, Burress and Mason are probably gone after this season so the CS would have to ask themselves how comfortable they would be with the idea of Kerley starting opposite Holmes if Sanu turns out to be a developmental project. That being said, Sanu would be the only prospect I'd be happy with the Jets taking in the first round as a project. And just to make me sound completely incapable of making a decision, I'm lukewarm to the idea of trading up as many slots as it would(hopefully) take to draft someone like Blackmon or Jeffery. Doing so would more than likely take us out of position to find a pass-rusher at the OLB position and I don't think the Jets can afford to let that position slide in another draft.
Im not against getting a great player in Jeffrey or Blackmon, but putting that many draft picks into one player rarely works out. Besides we cant continue to not have a true pass rusher and if we draft one of those guys thats another year without one.
Mark Sanchez won't be able to progress unless this team brings in talented, young receivers. Burress and Mason are stop gaps. Holmes and Kerley are the only long-term options at the position. A good #2 WR is needed. This team has tons of cash invested into Mark Sanchez. They need to put weapons around him, because Rex Ryan can call a good defense with no names on the field.
I agree Burress and Mason wont be around for long but its not like there aren't other capable WRs in this upcoming draft. Floyd, Broyles, Fuller, we have a #1 in Holmes we dont need another one, yeah it would be nice but we are a run first team still. We are probably going to have to make a trade similar to what ATL and CLE made if those 2 are going to be in the top 7 range. 2 first round picks, 1 second and 2 fourths. Jeffery to me is a top ten lock, Blackmon might fall a little and if he does i'm all for it. We need to mock what the great organizations have done over the years and stack up as many draft picks as possible to continually be in a good position to get good value for them.
Seconded. Do they have to go full ditka to get him a great young target? I have no idea, but I do know he definately needs one next offseason.
