LOL still believe this. As long as he does not start as our primary guy, I am happy with the signing. As for the money, I commend Idzik. He got him for a ton cheaper than I imagined. I like the signing a lot
I thought Lee would have run a faster 40 time than a 4.52 but I seriously think he might still be injured since he battled injuries the whole season at USC. Coming into the combine, everyone wanted to see what Jordan Matthews was going to run in his 4o because he is the most polished pro ready WR in this draft and his speed was the only question and he answered that when ran a 4.46 4o. Lee looks as though he will be selected in the middle or late first round and when he didn't run a 40 at his pro day I was shocked and took that as a red flag. The draft is still weeks away, and it comes down to the JETS selecting a guy that can be a #1 guy from day one. The two players that I look at are Jordan Matthews and Brandin Cooks.
Really! I watched his tape from yesterday it was OK, nothing earth shattering. KB didn't improve or make his stock worse...he is what he is. Ran slightly slower than the Combine, no big deal. I thought he looked slow in receiving drills, not running full speed. Stiff hips, not explosive, but he's not an explosive player. Cooks, Beckham & Lee are still better fits and should be drafted higher than KB. Benjamin is going to be picked in the mid to late 20's of Rd 1.
WW - serious question - do u think a team drafts benjamin with the possible notion of moving him to TE?
No, I can't see KB on the line blocking, it's not his game. I think Benjamin can be a solid player, especially in the RZ. KB just isn't a complete player yet, high risk/high reward. I'm just not willing to gamble when players like Ebron, Cooks, Beckham & Lee could be available. We give Rock hard time, but KB isn't an awful player, some of us just value him differently.
Gotcha - kinda thought he could eventually be used as the proverbial "pass catching TE" - especially given the RZ threat. thanks.
We will see soon enough. I'm a big Mayock fan and he seems to love him too. He isn't a typical WCO guy, i agree that Cooks and Beckham probably fit our scheme better because of their YAC numbers BUT it seems that our scouts like him because they were at the FSU vs FS game in full force and then Rex and co there yesterday. I may be on an island with this thought but i think he will be the best WR in this draft 2/3 years from now. To much size, strength and positive intagibles to pass up on. The kid is just a beast and reminds me of Julio Jones when he first came in the league.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...g-draft-observations-by-an-exnfl-player-scout "It's a foregone conclusion that Sammy Watkins will be the first wide receiver taken in the draft, but I'm not convinced that he is the top playmaker in the 2014 class. Now, I know I'm the lone wolf in that assessment, but I remember the numerous accolades and honors hurled in USC WR Marqise Lee's direction a season ago. In case you forgot, Lee was touted as the most electrifying player in college football after tallying 118 receptions for 1,721 yards with 14 touchdowns in 2012. He finished the season with 2,683 all-purpose yards and averaged 16.7 yards every time he touched the ball. Those numbers certainly jump off the stat sheet, but it was his big-play ability (16 plays of 40-plus yards in 2012, including 11 of 50-plus yards and 7 of 70-plus yards) that separated Lee from a talented collection of playmakers in college football. Somehow, we've forgotten about Lee and his impact on the game after watching him suffer through a miserable junior season that was marred by inconsistencies, injuries and scattershot quarterback play..."
Marqise Lee is awesome. So is Watkins, though. Here are my lists... I have it broken down by role. There's a write-up for each ranked player if you scroll beneath the initial list. Interesting to say the least, Steve. Bryant over Evans, Matthews and Adams? No way imo. I don't see what you see in Bryant at all. Gallon over Benjamin and Robinson? Richardson so high and Moncrief so low? I don't see that either. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Well, the rankings certainly didn't turn out how I expected, but that's why I watch all the stuff I can. Gallon I think is the clear most-underrated receiver in the draft. The guy is so effective, tough, fast, and focused I don't understand why people think he's a late round pick. He broke Michigan's single-season receiving record with a terrible QB. If you haven't gotten to watch him much, please do. Also, if someone strongly disagrees with why I have someone rated where I do, please scroll down to the full text on the link to see my write-up on them to understand why I have them there. On the topic of Bryant, I know I have him higher than everyone else does, but getting to watch every game of Josh Gordon's career, the two are so similar. Really if he gets on a team with a QB who can put the ball over the top he can be unstoppable. The only thing I think he lacks is a bit of toughness, but his skillset is so unique in this draft and it proved out last year with Gordon that it can be very effective. Oh yeah, and I think Moncrief is lazy and that's the main issue driving why I have him so low. Anyway, thanks for reading!
CleveStever thanks for sharing. It seems like OBJ (can't call him ODB that name is taken by Old Dirty Bastard) is pretty high on all 4 of your lists. That would indicate he has the most position and scheme flexibility, yes? Anyway, in your opinion, if Lee, Cooks, and OBJ are there at 18 (and Ebron, Watkins, etc are gon) who do you think the Jets should take?
Yeah, I really like Beckham because he's so polished and plays under control. From that list (for the Jets specifically) I'd probably take Cooks. I know I have Lee rated higher but with Lee I'd be worried about his antics getting to Geno. If we were talking about a team with a more-established QB in less of a pressure-cooker setting, I'd take Lee over Cooks, but Cooks is a very good teammate on the field. Both guys get great separation but I think Lee could be a negative for a QB that needs to build confidence. Beckham I like a lot but Cooks has an extra degree of explosiveness that nobody else in the draft has. Anyways, JMO.
Thanks. I did read the fuller text below. I'm sure that I haven't seen more video than I have so I'll yield to your opinion. Regarding Bryant, a Clemson student posted that he had seen every game of Bryant's career and that he hoped that the Jets would stay far, far away from Bryant. He basically thinks that Bryant is awful, bad hands, and I forget what else. I'll try to find his post.
Yeah, I saw that, and it definitely gave me pause, but I have to go off of what I saw. I've only paid attention to what he did this year, so I don't know how much of a difference that makes. But like I said it's just all based off my own opinion (and I encourage everyone to do the same.) Sometimes that's for good other times for bad.
This. I go to school at UMich, and he was far and away the best player on our offense this year, and that includes Lewan. I would love to spend a 5th on him.
