IMO both are too old. Golden Tate plus one of them or Maclin plus one of them, but not both. Maclin has had some injury issues, but he could come to the Jets and stay healthy. Some players go through a string of injuries with a team, change teams, then for whatever reason stay healthy. I think Boldin would still want big money. I'd love to have Cotch back, but I'd be very surprised if he'd come back to the Jets.
seems like theres ALOT of options, from FA and the draft this is a good time to need a WR,theres no reason the jets shouldn't be in the running for some of these guys.
Another guy that's worth taking a flier on is Danario Alexander. He's had MAJOR knee issues (mostly left knee), including a torn right ACL in August. When he plays, he is a 6'5", 220 lb speed/matchup nightmare who has produced in San Diego and STL. The guy is a FA (waived by Chargers), and will come really cheap (1 year deal at close to vet minimum). If he's not fully recovered in camp or gets hurt again, you cut him and move on. If he stays healthy (a big IF), he'd be a steal.
Maclin & Tate are the most realistic (and optimal) signings, for the reasons pertaining to their connections with members of this organization, as well as their fit in the Offensive system. Maclin/Tate/Kerley/Rookie/Hill is solid. Aside from the early WR selection, the Draft can be devoted to the OL, Secondary, TE, and hopefully a dynamic edge-rusher.
I would love Tate but how much do you think he would cost? Pettigrew I think is a realistic signing to help our offense. Maclin always seems to get hurt lately but he would still be a big help.
I'm not as keen on the cap stuff as some other posters here, so they'll know better than I'll know; but if I had to guess, I think Tate would want $6-7 mil/year. (Just a guess.) We have a lot of cap space, and if we have to overpay for a WR in FA, then it should be for Tate, who is still only like 26 years old. The idea is to lock him up longterm, hope he continues to progress the way he has, and finally build some continuity on Offense. The bright side to Maclin's injury history is that it might allow the opportunity for him to be had at a cheaper contract and shorter duration. Again, cap stuff is not my forte, so I'm not sure. Either way, I think we'll have enough room for both Tate & Maclin.
Anquan Boldin - very aged Eric Decker - peyton makes him look better than he is and he will cost a bit James Jones Brandon LaFell (Restricted FA) Jeremy Maclin - oh hell now Hakeem Nicks - depends on the price and if he can stay healthy Golden Tate - this would be interesting. i dont think he gets enough looks in seattle Kenny Britt - didnt he retire? if not he should Jerricho Cotchery - nostalgia is the only thing bringing him back here Darrius Heyward-Bey - man the raiders are fucking stupid Robert Meachem - we saw he was useless once he left new orleans
James Jones is good at everything but not great, decent speed wouldn't be bad for like 3-4 mill. I think your underrating Decker, he can play and put up good numbers with Tim fucking Tebow and he's young. I really like Decker.
bumbling stone hands heyward-bey is the worst NFL starting "receiver" i have ever seen Street FA scrubs like Salas and David Nelson are better, more worthy of roster space. just ask raider fans or colt fans or anybody who's paid attention to him at all over the years.
Decker looks like he's improving this year, but he's had very questionable hands. I've seen him drop a ton of passes. I'd be very wary of him. His improvement could be due to playing with Peyton.
A ton is over exagerrating I've seen him make a ton of spectacular ones as well. Nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking is unfair. He runs routes very cleanly even before Peyton got there.
I don't know why some people are saying that Decker is going to be a bust if he ever leaves Peyton Manning. He was great in college and is now great in the NFL. He progressed well his first two years in the NFL before Peyton Manning, and it looked like he was set for a breakout year in his third year anyway(first with Peyton). He is the perfect go to Wide Receiver. He does everything well. He is big, deceptively fast, sure handed, a good route runner and most importantly not like Santonio Holmes. He isn't going to create a problem every week for the team.
I disagree that it's exaggerating. I have seen him drop a lot of passes. I haven't seen every game, however, so maybe he didn't drop any in the games I didn't see and just dropped them in the games I've seen. I can tell you that in almost every game I've seen him play he's dropped at least two passes if not more. It doesn't matter how great a route runner you are if you can't hold onto the ball once you beat your defender. Maybe his problem is a lack of focus rather than having bad hands. Regardless, I'd be very hesitant to give him big money.
I disagree with your description. In my experience of seeing him play, he is anything but sure handed.
He dropped 8 passes on 123 targets last year, and 7 on 110 this year. In comparison to the rest of the league, its not bad. Last year he had a 6.5% drop rate. For comparison, Julio Jones had a 6.2, Randall Cobb 8.6, Dez Bryant 6.5, AJ Green 5.5, Calvin 5.4, Cruz 7.7 and Demaryius Thomas at 7.1%. Thats really not bad at all. He only dropped 1% more of his passes than Calvin and AJ Green- who have some of the best hands in the NFL. Id certainly take a look at him in FA if he's not ridiculously expensive. Around 7 mil per year could be a solid price. He can be a #1 for us, or a very good #2 if we draft a WR in the 1st. http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/drops/2012/
