Its a moot point because no other NFL Franchise who finishes with the #1 pick would ever trade out of the first pick while RUNNING AWAY AND MISSING OUT ON TREVOR LAWRENCE. Just like Jet fans would riot if we traded out of the #1 spot while passing on Trevor Lawrence for 'more picks" other NFL fan bases would feel the same. He's guaranteed to go #1 by whichever team finishes with the worst record because no NFL team will trade out of the #1 spot and Trevor Lawrence. So it's a moot point because the Jets wouldn't be able to trade up to begin with; not even if we offered our entire draft class like the Saints did for Ricky Williams. I'm an FSU fan and absolutely crazed over our ACC along with the SEC and Trevor is becoming the greatest ACC QB of All Time. Here in 2020 his QB Rating is top 10 All Time when in comparison to Sam Darnold's final season @ USC his QB Rating wasn't even TOP 100 ALL TIME! 2020 is truly 1st overall pick or bust because if we don't finish with the #1 pick? A trade up is NOT POSSIBLE because no NFL Franchise who finishes with the #1 pick would EVER pass up on Trevor while letting the JETS win the draft; nope, not happening!
Teams who pick 2-5 are still really bad teams. Sam was ranked 30th in the league or lower in most of the relevant QB stats last season and was even worse the year before.
Yea I’ve seen the Cowboys play, they are terrible. Two things though they have working against them 1. Is they play in the NFCE and they will be in the division race the entire season and it’s so bad they will all split with each other therefore eliminating all of them. 2. They already have two wins which very well could already eliminate them.
But you’re not choosing between a generational player and Sam. Your choosing between some good prospects and a just as young bird in hand who has flashed and been a bad situation. At that point building around him this draft is probably more logical than throwing some other prospects into the same situation. If he’s bad we’ll be around the same pick next year only with more and more experienced offensive talent waiting for the next qb hope.
What on earth has Sam shown to convince us we should build around him? Sam has ranked among the worst in the NFL in every relevant QB metric in every year he's been here. Go check for yourself if you'd like. He's not even average or slightly below average. He honestly may be the worst starting QB in the NFL based on YPA, TD passes, Interceptions thrown, completion %. In addition to being 30th or worse in these metrics last year, so far this year Sam ranks: 32nd in QB rating 30th in TD's thrown 30th in Completion % 32nd in YPA He's a horrible QB. These stats are also backed by the eye test. I've seen every game he's played and he misses open guys all the time and throws tons of picks into multi coverage. There's a fairly good chance that even a non-Lawrence QB will be significantly better than Sam.
Exactly. The more I think about it? The more I kind of feel bad for Adam Gase. He's stuck with a bust QB in Sam who's an absolute turnover machine. This video below doesn't even include his awful turnovers of 2016 @ USC. This video below only shows his turnover machine turnovers from 2017 during his final season @ USC. And nothing has changed here in NY. He looks EXACTLY THE SAME AS A JET as he did @ USC while forcing these turnovers. Sam Darnold is no Trevor Lawrence people and Sam Darnold has been nothing short of an absolute bust. I'm already sick of him and I hate to say it but I feel bad for Gase.
clearly A LOT of fumbles and bad throws. But at least 4 of these in the video are on the receivers. I'm not, not picking TL because we have Sam. I also see a scenario where we play Sam and have TL as the back-up in year 1 and don't pick up Sam's 5th year option. We need more skill players regardless
Sam is very much a product of his environment. There’s no prospect outside TL that wouldn’t struggle here under the same circumstances. If we’re not picking number 1 this year it will be because of Sam.
Pretty bad is really harsh. Anytime you draft a franchise QB for 10+ years in the middle of the first round that leads you to a SB win is far from pretty bad. That SB year the offence carried their team. Ray Lewis was playing with a robot arm, Suggs and Reed were still good but past their prime. It was Flacco, Rice and Bolden that stepped up huge for them.
My thoughts exactly. The only teams that would trade the #1 pick and a chance @ Trevor are the Bengals because they've got Burrow or maybe the Texans because they've got Watson.
We are not in a position to give up 2 or 3 years worth of draft picks we have the worst roster this league has seen in 20 years....the question is would you take Justin Fields or another QB if the Jets slid to the 2nd or 3rd pick.
You just named 2 teams so I'm pretty sure that's not nobody thus making your thoughts useless not this thread.
Douglas seems to love wheeling and dealing too much to trade all his bullets for one player. It's more likely he'd trade out of #1 for a high capacity magazine full of hollow point draft picks than trade up to #1 and have nothing left to build his new team with.
