I think the biggest problem with transitioning him to an OLB was that he got hurt. He has only had 4/5 weeks to learn the position and play it at game speed. Hopefully by the end of the season he understands it more and is better acclimated to that position. He did play pretty good last week with a FF and a sack.
I really don't see why anyone would not want to trade for Gordon. The biggest reason we do this is to make a run at it this year. 2010 Packers: 4-3 seven games into the season 2011 Giants: 6-6 after 12 games, and we're virtually out of playoff contention before pulling ou a insane comeback win against Dallas in thanksgiving 2012 Ravens: lost their final 4 out of 5 games. Once you make the playoffs, it's a crapshoot on whether you win it all or not. If we go 1-1 in the next 2 games, our most probable record for the season is 10-6 with a playoff showing. At that point, you absolutely need josh Gordon as a weapon defenses have to pay attention to, making our whole offense that much more efficient.
I don't agree with you at all. Trading for a guy like Gordon is not necessarily a win now approach. He is a young and VERY talented player. He is the type of guy that defenses prepare for and could be the corner stone of building a young and talented receiving corps. If he was a veteran, like Larry Fitzgerald, then the ultimate goal would be to win now, but a guy like Gordon is someone you could build an offense with. Chances are, he will be better than any pick you have. There is of course a possibility the draft pick pans out better than he will, but the chances are more in favor of Gordon.
Come January, are you arguing having Gordon on our team won't make our offense a ton more effective??? If we make the playoffs, Gordon will help our offense immensely.
I think he's just saying if we acquire Gordon, it's not just for this postseason run. It's also for the runs for the next x amount of years.
Yea trading for Josh Gordon is definitely not a "win now approach". The guy is really young and is still progressing towards his potential. Sure, he'd help us now this season and especially if we make the playoffs, but he will also be helping us for years to come if we get him and hold on to him. He is a weapon that would be extremely beneficial for Geno.
He will be a great asset once we win the AFC East. Let's go Dolphags! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
I didn't say that. What I said was that trading for Gordon now wouldn't be solely for a playoff run this year. In the eyes of a lot of people, this would be a move for the future. Yeah, of course he would help us a ton this year, but this move would be geared more toward the future of our receiving corps.
What this guy said. He has killed it all season with JAGs throwing him the ball. A 2nd rounder would be a steal for this guy. I would love that Kyle Wilson and 3rd though, even though I think that rumor was a bunch of BS.
This dude is so freaking good. I'm starting to think that we wouldn't be able to pick up a guy as good as him in the first. Honestly, if we could get some insurance with the trade just in case he does get into trouble, I'd be willing to give a first.
True, but for all the people who want to keep our picks, don't have enough of a win now mentality. People are counting this season out way to prematurely.
No one is counting this season out right now lol Jesus! Trying to explain things to you is so hard. I want Gordon, but keeping your draft picks to build a young team for the future is also a very smart move. You seem to not realize that with one failed drug test, Gordon is suspended for an entire year. An entire year. Is that a risk worth taking when giving up multiple draft picks. Your theory is completely false. Just because Idzik wants to keep his draft picks doesn't mean he's given up on this season.
The title of this thread should be, would you trade for josh Gordon, if he was available, but the reality is, he is not
Some people can't envision a big picture scenario no matter how hard they try. Idzik is build ing towards the future. He already knows this team is lacking in key areas and is building a consistent winner. We've already done the quick fix under Bradway/Tannenbaum and it doesn't work for us. Perhaps it works for other teams, but not us. This season, as far as SB aspirations are concerned, is over already. We simply didn't have the talent required to pull something of that magnitude off. To ignore that fact is what HOMERS do, not realistic people. The ultimate goal is the SB. Not simply making the playoffs, but winning a championship. That formula is out there for every team to emulate. If the Jets were one player away, you gamble. The Jets are several players and several years away so now is not the time to gamble. Tannenbaum would have played Madden and traded away how ever many draft picks required to get a particular deal done damn the consequences. Those days are over thank God. This ain't Madden, but real life. It's ok to take your time and build a solid team instead of risking everything on the false premise that you're only one or two players away from being a serious contender. Idzik should keep all his DP's and put his stamp on the franchise personnel wise. We don't need a quick fix. We need a plan.. A REALLY GOOD PLAN. For once..
Really? With Santonio and Goodson already on the Roster, exactly how would this be good for Geno's development? Learning what happens when you violate League rules? Smoking weed is not a good thing maybe? ' The last thing this kid needs is another malcontent around him. Goodson and Holmes between them are a violation away from a season long suspension. Sorry Edge, but this team needs high character guys. Not Characters. We already have enough of those. Fitzgerald? maybe depending on the contract. At least Fitzgerald has high character.
I think something gets done in the offseason with him.I guess teams want to see to him finish this year out and avoid suspension. The pick will have to be conditional just in case he does get suspended again. Im thinking a 3rd that could reaches high as a 1st if he doesn't get suspended and his production of course.
