He's Canadian. Their Indians aren't loaded. Of course, we have poor Indians here, too. They're called the Navajo.
The only player I'd feel 100% okay with trading up for, is Earl Thomas. And that's only if the deal is reasonable (e.g. 1st, 2nd, 6th/2011-3rd/backup). Anything else just isn't worth it in this draft. Even with our 3rd and 5th gone, we could still walk out of this draft with 2-3 starters with we can trade down.
I might be willing to give up our 1st and 4th to move up for Odrick, but even that's a stretch. If we did that we would have to take our 2nd pick and trade down. We should be able to wait and get some good players no matter what.
No, we can get two quality guys at 29 and with the 2nd rd pick. I'd take Griffen if he's there at 29.
I think the question is who would we draft at 29 and early 2nd? I'm seeing a lot of people who want a depth OL or DL pick, which is fine, but I honestly think Brandon Graham could be an elite edge rusher who, like Jabba said, could get this team into the Superbowl. If it meant giving up, say, Odrick and McCourty, the trade would be awful. But for, say, Ducasse and, I dunno, Alualu...I'm very, very tempted. If it's two plug-and-play guys that we draft--the guys I would draft--no. But if the value wasn't going to be there around 29...it's so close.
Ducasse and Alualu is a much better draft. You guys want this double digit sack artist and Rex Ryan doesn't do that with his scheme...look up some stats for god's sake. He confuses quarterbacks with his coverages and it allows his OLBs to get in there. We can certainly improve our talent at OLB, but a "pass-rusher" is not what we need in this scheme. The Jets need a 3-4 OLB that fits into the system. I think Graham can do that, but he won't be there.
I like Alualu, but I think a good 6th OL isn't someone you need to reach for in the first round. Brandon Moore was undrafted. Yes, Faneca and Woody are in the down-slope of their careers, and we'll need guys who can play in a pinch, but I really think this is the year we gear up for the Super Bowl. If it's not Graham, and it's, say, Earl Thomas or name your mid-first prospect, do you still abhor this move? Or is it just as a matter of principle in giving up picks? Nothing against Ducasse or against any prospect in this draft, but most teams don't go OL in the first round. I'd think someone just marginally worse would be available in the third. Let me say this: I have the utmost faith in Tanny. If he targets someone he wants, and trades up, I trust him. If he stays at 29, I trust him. If he trades down and acquires more picks, I'm sure he has a guy in mind. The guy hasn't done much to show his hand yet, so whatever he does, it has nothing to do with what we're thinking here. So, fuck it, I'm tired of hypotheticals and waiting. Thursday can not come fast enough.
