You're missing the point that both mentalities can work. Player friendly coaches can succeed in this league and utter dickheads can succeed in this league. This locker room has had a head coach coddle them and rub their tummies for them for the past six years talking up everyone down to Salim Haakim like he's Devin Hester.

No one is held accountable anymore and that's not a good thing for a young roster. It works better for a veteran roster that doesn't need to be held accountable as much because they know the expectations of an NFL roster. There are few coaches that would allow their starting quarterback to miss the gameplan meeting the night before the game and still play the next day especially a 24 year old that's struggled a lot.

This roster needs a kick in the ass or at least a middle ground between someone holding their hand and kicking them in the ass. No more coddling.

no, I didn't miss the point - my point is that its not as simple as a change in coaching style that's needed and that simply appointing a Coughlin-esque coach will not suddenly deal with the problems that this team has - which starts with the chronic lack of a true franchise QB which is ten times the issue that the coaches demeanour is.

    I never mentioned this season.

Not sure what point you are trying to make.

I understand that but that type of demeanor goes a long way in reducing penalties, players including our "superstar" defensive lineman taking playa off, players missing meetings, chronic 12 men on the field penalties that force timeouts and players not knowing their assignments. We've gotten burned on several deep balls because our safeties were out of position or our corners funneled underneath coverage like they had help over the top.

Players become a lot more accountable for knowing their assignments when there are repercussions for not knowing them rather then having Rex slap them on the helmet and say go get em next time tiger it's okay you're still an all world player in my book.

I thought you said Harbaugh was an under-achiever with the roster he has.

    Rex is not the problem.

    the GM is.

    Rex got saddled with Schitty,.

then fucked out of his QB.

Fire Idzik, see what you have at QB, and build from there. Personally I think if Woody had balls, he'd get Tanny on the phone right now and suck his cock to get him back.

    Howard.

    Slauson.

where would this team be right now?

    Under Tanny...

Nah, I didn't say anything close to that, I was comparing his situation with Rex's.

The real problem is the behavior. And it won't get any better here.

    Richardson is a beast.
Milliner in the last few games have looked good. He just needs to stay healthy.
Winters at best is a rotation lineman.
Aboushi so far has looked solid.
Bohannon is a solid FB and a good value in the 7th round.

This guy is way overrated purely because of his brother.

Yes, because his brother is a really good coach in Baltimore, and they look so similar, everyone thinks Jim is a great coach too.

Team was ultra talented the last few seasons, huge, strong, intimidating, skillful, and they haven't anything to show for it but a crappy 2014 reg season record.

It's all well and good if you're not interested in the Jets acquiring this guy or if you see him as a bad fit for this organization but don't play it off like he's a bad coach because of it. He came a pass interference call away from winning the Super Bowl after consecutive NFC championship games.

Is Belichick a bad head coach because he's had over talented rosters especially on the defense in his dynasty Super Bowl years? How about Tomlin who inherited a Bill Cowher roster a couple years removed from winning one? A talented roster and a .727 winning percentage doesn't take away from the guys coaching ability especially when he his quarterback talent has probably been closer to the 15-20 range ranking wise than the top.

    I like Richardson and Milliner.

    - Winters sucks in every category. We need a starting G, not a G that will sit on the sidelines
    - Aboushi has not looked solid. Very suspect in pass-protection, decent run blocker
    - I like Bohannon as well.

I don't think Idzik's track record is impressive at all, it seems he takes a liking to injury prone players thinking they have some major untapped potential.

My apologies. He does have this narcissistic attitude, but no HC is perfect - he still knows the game better than a lot of HCs available. Would you rather take one of those Seattle Coordinators?

No I wouldn't, but it's not really an either/or situation. I just don't see Harbaugh working here, I think it would end in tears. This isn't the flower power media market of San Francisco, he'd be under a microscope and I think he'd flame out.

But it's all probably moot, because I just don't see him being interested in the job.

Yes but similarly people work harder for praise than they do for pay - there is no "right approach" or "wrong approach" - some things work for some players, others respond to other kinds of encouragement - I just find the idea that if we had an ass kicker in here rather than a nice guy that this team would perform at a much higher level unrealistic - I just don't buy it - the team performs as it does because it lacks talent not because guys are being coddled.

you say "We've gotten burned on several deep balls because our safeties were out of position or our corners funneled underneath coverage like they had help over the top" - what does that have to do with the coaches personality? its either bad play calling or crap players or more likely both - if they had been shouted at they would have 10 ints by now?

No but they certainly would know their assignments because there would be reporuccisons for not knowing them. That's why an ass kicker is a better fit for a younger developing roster that needs to be disciplined. It goes a long way rather than accepting that players don't know their assignments and packages like Rex obviously does because it hasn't changed in his 6 years here.
