The guy has failed miserably against good defenses with disguises. People are questioning his work ethic, and his completion percentage of throwing downfield (20 yards or more) is awful. Scouts are not high on him for a reason. You take him if he falls to the 3rd but not a first round pick by any stretch. Austin at 13 would be OK, I personally would rather have a pass rushing OLB or some OL help.

I think it would be pretty exciting. I don't see how the Jets pass on Smith if he's there when they pick, unless someone else makes a really nice offer to move up.

Really, if we end up with the 9 and 13 I'm going to be excited no matter what because it should translate into some great players.

This only makes sense if all the other pieces are there. Even if the Jets get a formidable QB and playmaker athletic WR we're still at least a year away from competing for a SB. Football teams typically only have a 2-3 year window to win a SB and I think it would be a lot more efficient and beneficial for the Jets to draft players that can develop over the next few rebuilding years and then have them around to make a successful foundation (similar to the Jets having Harris, Brick, Mangold, Revis going into '09). Some positions (O-Line, linebacker) just have longer average careers than others (RB and WR), and while QB is above-average I would argue that the position's importance, the second- third- and sometimes fourth-chances afforded to QBs with potential or veteran QBs, and long-career outliers like Manning and Brady would explain that.

tl;dr: Jets aren't going to win the SB over the next 2 years so why draft players who may not be around in a few years (based on position).
