Bridgewater folds under pressure. All the teams that gave him trouble (including us up until the idiotic blitz at the end) are teams that bring a lot of pressure from the interior pass rush. He doesn't really have anything to do against that but take a hit or run around and try to bootleg. This is similar to Geno, btw. Put any pressure on him up the middle and things are going to go wrong with the occasional escape to the sideline.
Yeah, we'd have spent about $14M guaranteed on a mediocre player in order to avoid taking a $1M flyer on a guy who then blew out with mental issues in camp. Guess who got the better deal in the long-run? Now, if the Giants were 8-5 right now and headed to the playoffs? Well, then we'd be talking about Eli and Geno. Think about it. The fans bitching about the off-season last year wouldn't have made any improvement over it if they were running the show. We'd be watching Bridgewater running all over the place instead of Geno and Vick. Anybody here think Bridgewater was beating any of the QB's Geno lost too? The losses might have looked a bit better in a few cases but that's the difference. DRC? Same 2-11. The man hasn't been all that good for the Giants and the Giants blow chunks.
LOL still trying to defend your irrational dumping on Teddy I see. Every QB save the elite of the elite folds under pressure. I've even seen the 2 greatest of all time shit their pants in recent Super Bowls. Oh yeah, and he's a ROOKIE. LOL comparing him to Geno--his football IQ is about 100 points higher than Geno's. Keep making stuff up BWay. _
You could say that about practically every QB though. Pressure up the middle makes even Brady and Manning have bad days. Bridgewater looks like a good rookie to me.
Isn't that what "pressure" is? The defense causing the QB or player to fold because the "pressure" becomes too much. This was exactly how we have beat Brady in the past and exactly how teams have beaten the most elite QBs in the game. If you put enough pressure on Brady, Manning, Brees, etc. they will fold. That's what pressure is.
He looks the same to me that he did last year. He's an efficient QB who doesn't have a particularly good arm and misses some throws you'd expect him to make as a result. He gets hit too often and takes a hard hit now and then that he's going to have to learn to avoid. I expect that he's going to follow a career path that goes along the Jason Campbell - Ryan Fitzpatrick progression. He'll get two or three years with the Vikings and then they'll move on (same as Ponder got) and teams will pick him up because he's efficient and better than what they can scrounge up off the waiver wire if their QB goes down.
Thanks. I must have missed the Lions box score. Still, I think he has a lot of potential. He hasn't had Adrian Peterson to help him, and I don't remember what kind of talent he has around him or the caliber of his CS. I think he has the talent to become a quality starter in the NFL. Like most rookies, he has a lot to learn and adjustments to make. He probably would have benefited immensely by siting this year and not playing. Is he a franchise QB of Luck's level? No, but I think the Jets could have won a lot of games with him at QB in future years.
A great Jets team could have won a lot of games with him at QB. Same for Mark Sanchez. Same for Geno Smith (well maybe not as many but...) In the NFL today the QB has to be great or you're not going far enough. Even great QB's aren't enough most of the time. Every now and then you get a great team at the end of it's run that can carry a mediocre QB to a championship. That's not what you should be looking for though because that great team is going to disintegrate over the next few years after that.
Boy I sure wish the Jets players had half of the loyalty and determination showed by the Idick supporters. We could lose out this year and go 0-16 with Idzick as our GM next year yet these guys would still assure us to be patient and that our GM knows what he is doing. So my question to the remaining Idzick supporters is where do you draw the line? What would have to happen for you to throw in the towel and say "you know what I was wrong Idzick really does need to go"?
This makes almost no sense. We would have saved no money, because we would be paying a lot more to someone not all that good.
It's pretty simple. If Idzik gets a reasonable amount of time to do his thing and the team really sucks and doesn't show marked improvement at that point, then it makes sense to let him go. To me, a reasonable amount of time for an NFL GM is at least 3-4 years (4 is probably better). Before that time is up, a GM can get canned but only if he makes really terrible decisions (which are inherently terrible, not in hindsight). Some examples of those would be: trading away your entire draft for a running back (Ricky Williams), using a 2nd round pick on a punter, using a 1st round pick on a guy with no history of college football success, just great combine numbers, etc, passing up a surefire franchise QB pick, etc.
In fairness the Jets used a second rounder on a kicker, NOT a punter. LOL, it was still one of the worst picks in the history of a franchise that has made a ton of horrible picks.
I said give him 1 more year and that's it. This year hasn't been good enough and we've got considerably worse not better - even allowing for having a flattering record last year . If he wants to stay after this year then I've got to see big signs of improvement. He gets to chose his HC and do whatever he wants with the FO. No handcuffs. His decisions and he lives or dies by them. He's on notice to get things turned around now. I realise this may be an issue in terms of appointing a new HC but we'll cross that bridge when it comes to it. If Idzik's appointed HC is 1 and done then so be it. The next GM gets to chose his coach if he doesn't think the incumbent one will work out as well. If everyone isn't pulling in the same direction then only bad things can happen, as we've seen this year.
OK, so Rex gets fired and Idzick brings in his own head coach. Fast forward one year and the worst has happened so Idzick gets fired. Do we keep his coach or is it unfair to fire the guy after one year? When you ask these sort of questions and think it through it may be much easier to clean house now instead of worrying if it is fair or not.
Look there's a program on either Espn or NFLN on if the draft were today who you would select. Definitely not the players in the order they were chosen. In other words (for all you second guessers) it basically wasn't done right by anybody. In hindsight the Jets wouldn't take Pryor again. Unless of course he becomes a Pro Bowl player. If that happens then what do you say next.
So somebody is read to shell big bucks to make the Jets a 4 win team? And who says he did not make them a 10+ loss team? Makes no sense
