Sometimes the record can be deceiving, case in point the KC Chiefs, they had skilled players but we're poorly coached. With 2 moves they were in the playoffs the following year. Changed the HC and the QB.
If the 2014 draft had some players who actually panned out, then I would give Idzik the benefit of the doubt. However, the 2014 draft was a disaster with the amount of picks he had. Why should we put our faith in him to do better with prime picks next time?
Also why are we assuming that his drafts were poor? Sans Geno our first and second round picks for both years are showing potential. Later rounds are always a wash. If anything I do blame Idzik for not doing something with our sheer number of picks last year, since so many didn't turn out anyway.
This has nothing to do with anything I said. Predictions are irrelevant and nobody said being this bad was part of the plan. Go back and address what I said. If you simply want to Strawman the discussion I'm too busy this morning to entertain that nonsense.
Look, I think Andy Reid is a great HC, and better than Ryan. But the overall management of KC was a real mess before Reid got there. I don't see an Andy Reid coming to the Jets next year and fixing things. I also don't see the Jets having a great fit for KC like Alex Smith falling into the Jets' lap, either. Again, on what do Idzik supporters base the notion that he will take this shitstorm and turn it into a wining hand? What has he done in the past that should inspire confidence in such regard? Until these questions are answered, all the Idzik support crap is a combination of denial, wishful thinking, and lack of football knowledge.
Well, if being this bad was not part of hte plan, then why should we think the plan is being managed well and will, with Idzik as GM, be likely to succeed?
Any time you do what Idzik is doing you run the risk of being very, very bad. You don't purge a team of veteran contracts, hold off on free agency, and start a bunch of rookies without thinking it might be really bad.
Pretty surprised how many want Idzik to go, or how many expect him to go. What GM has been giving since little time. Let him pick the coach, and play with the cap room. -Restructure Harvin -Get Ipoti -Draft Winston or Marriota -Cut Chris Johnson Team has potential.
Other than his diabolical plan to sabotage his coach so he could bring his own guy in, Idzik has not done a terrible job. His drafts haven't been too bad, and he did trade a 4th round pick for Ivory which looks pretty good now. The decision to let our solid RT go and replace him with Joke-amini looks bad now too, and signing Willie Colon was a disaster, but at least he never reached for talent in the draft. Milliner was good value, Richardson of course is a beast, Pryor good value, Geno Smith great value where we took him....granted 3 of those 4 may not pan out, but hindsight is always 20/20, when they were drafted they were considered good picks...
As far as I can tell the plan was to build almost entirely through the draft. Which only works if you're good at picking players. After two years it's obvious that not only is Idzik not good at picking players, he's downright awful.
I'm definitely still on board with giving him time. This is still a rebuild, and part of the original job involved remnants left to be torn down. There haven't been aces results obviously, but I don't have any major problems with the overall decision making/thought process.
Dee Milliner, Sheldon Richardson, Calvin Pryor, Geno Smith, Jace Amaro, and Brian Winters were all considered good value picks at the time. They all were considered good picks by the majority of experts. Hindsight is always 20/20, but at the time we were all praising Idzik for getting good prospects and not reaching. Can't have it both ways.
Last years draft class definitely isn't living up to it's expectation. With Dex/Dee coming back next year, that will be huge for our defense. If we don't grab a SS via FA or mid-late rounds, 1 of Allen/Jarrett can fill that spot to move Pryor to his FS. In a perfect world, we'd come out of FA with Iupati/Worilds/Chris Harris, but we can probably only hope for 1. After that, it's BPA for me. We NEED PLAYMAKERS!
2013 draft: Milliner/ STARTER-got better as year went on and was brought back to early this year/ injured Richardson/ STARTER, DROY Geno/ STARTER- (NFL)Picked in 2nd round, anyone with football knowledge knew it was a shot worth taking. Winters/ STARTER- never improved, now hurt( Wally Pip). Oday Aboushi/ STARTER- getting better every game, will never lose job to winters. Campbell/now with bills Bohanon/ STARTER- very productive as FB until he was injured. 4th round pick acquired Ivory/STARTER Are you guys telling me that this was not a decent draft? I know some guys love to blow their own horn and can't see past what they want to see but anyone with football knowledge can see that you can't draft all pro players with every pick, but the supporting cast is just as important.
There were some lucky wins last year, along with one or two losses that arguably should have gone the other way. But it's some way from say 6-10 to what looks like 3-13 at this point. That is not progress.
