That's the easy criticism of these hi level execs but I find that it's the contrary......I have been around those in charge of companies, subdivisions, and stand alone departments and most know exactly what they are doing with regard to executing the business plans, keeping things legal, and working toward a goal or goals......

IMO the problem arises when one cannot see the forest thru the trees and getting several different plans to integrate into the single goal. A sports franchise has almost as many off the field variables as a non- sports entity - with the addition of on the field variables that can change the plan in seconds.

It's a difficult job, even for those highly educated and trained for it. That being said idzik has not made it smooth for himself nor the team. Someone needed to grab his ear for a few days/weeks when he accepted the job and educate him on NY sports, the media, and the perceptions. Maybe the jets did that and it just wasn't enough prep, who knows?

Maybe he thinks he is above that? It sure bit him on the ass this year.

Yes that was likely the train of thought. But he whiffed on the expectation of a healthy milliner for 16 games and impact of a 3rd round corner. risky even if it did pan out. If milliner is on the field now, what we have 2 more wins so what?
Someone needed to bash him on the head and say hey u have a question at QB, a CB dependent defense, and a speckled jet draft record these last few years - AND coming off a few fiascos on and off the field. He really needed to play it like a textbook and got way to cute for his own good.

To answer ur ? about smith - it's the QB he took and they will kick the tires until the rubber wears out. I think it's that simple.

There is no long term plan in the NFL honestly. Especially when injuries are such an equalizer. What happens if Andrew Luck gets hurt and tears something up in the preseason? What plan to the Colts have to counter that? You just lost your franchise quarterback for the season. Should a GM come under fire for not having a backup who steps up for the young Luck? "Injuries can happen". A sad flu

Sure you will have tendencies as a General Manager that you will always carry over(Idzik is a cap believer and likes quantity over quality for draft picks, problem is he not the draft team assembled in New York hasn't gotten much production out of those picks) but everything goes out the window when a key player gets hurt for a long duration.

My overall point is, too much can change in an instant and with a snap of the finger to have "a plan", you think you will have something and then something else occurs. He inherited an absolute mess of a team from Mr.T, there was going to be a transition period to try and replenish the talent on the team, the problem is the replenishing hasn't occurred this year. Maybe we get lucky and Shaq Evans adds yet another name to this impressive WR draft? Maybe Dakota Dozier fills in for Willie Colon or kicks ass and takes the LG spot by storm? Maybe in year 3 Dee Milliner catches up to the NFL and its speed or Dexter McDougle shows flashes in 2015 as to being a solid nickel.

Too many what if's to think you have a solid plan down pat.

Quantity over quality doesn't exactly work when you cut everyone.

Of course the Jalen Saunders draft pick cut is dumb as shit. No one's denying he and his draft team/scouts failed in some regards. That's his big blemish that could cost him his job. But my overall point is all it takes is a few misfortunes and that plan you have explodes in your face and you are left scampering for another solution.

That's life. If you can't evaluate GM's for all their misses, how can we evaluate them?

No, it wasn't. Every year in the NFL, most draft picks do not work out. Even really high picks in the first round often do not pan out. There are busts all over the place, and not just for the Jets, but for every team in football. Look at Clowney this year, missed pretty much the entire year, might be an injury riddled bust (might also not, who knows at this point), and this guy was a surefire draft pick. So if the best players in college football taken in the first round often become busts, how are you going to blame anyone for a 4th round pick that doesn't work out?

Good point. The problem is not just this pick, when it's NY, and your drafted QB sucks, and the injuries come, and your draft picks have little to no impact (to the improvement of the team), And you sit on bookoo cap money while the cb situation is putrid, and most of all the 2-11 record. IMO you should be tar and feathered and run out of town. A portion of our fans want to keep for him another year (for whatever reason). Question is whether Woody (and a large portion of our fans) could stand it if another year if this circus continues. After rooting for this team since the NY Titan days I would have to sit back and question my loyalty and sanity to keep on rooting this team.

Its a high 4th round pick, for that player to get cut during the season is just a bad pick, especially when this player was taken over the likes of a Bruce Ellington or Martavis Bryant. For a 6th or 7th, that is fine but for a high 4th....you expect them to contribute.

Clowney got injured, it is just awful luck for the kid. With Saunders he got set behind from a seizure(Or whatever that was), had 1 awful muff vs Chicago and that was it for him. Didn't even get much of a chance if at all.

How can we have an honest debate when you can't even acknowledge an obvious error like the Saunders pick?

You don't know what was going on behind the scenes with Saunders and why exactly they cut him. Guys like Reilly, IK, Enunwa haven't exactly been setting the world on fire so far, but they are still with the team, so maybe with Saunders it was something else, a discipline or attitude issue, who knows.

I just don't agree with your definition of error. You look at the draft like a certain thing, like we are supposed to get good players with every draft pick, and if we don't that's an error by the GM. I, on the other hand, look at the actual success rates by various teams and see that it's pretty low. Teams constantly miss on draft picks, and once you get into 4th round and beyond, it's a real crapshoot. So the fact that they missed on Saunders doesn't mean anything by itself. Every team has a bunch of misses every draft. You can only judge a GM's drafting objectively over many picks (several drafts) and after enough time has passed (3 seasons is usually the accepted amount).

I think Vick was lied to. If he really did not show up as you put it, that would have come out. Vick is a competitor, and with a one year deal he had to be concerned about the market for his services this coming off season. His having taken a couple of years off and back at not such a great number, I am sure he wants the money for next year.

One of the critical elements of the last off season was letting Cromartie go without attempting to keep him. This year would have been much better if Cro was still on the team.

At the time some speculated that the FO had some report or info suggesting that Cromartie was going to be held back by an injury problem left over from 13. Well he obviously has not been held back playing for the Cards.

The need to go out and get a CB in FA came from the Cro situation. Yes I agree depending on Milliner was risky even at the time, but the immediate need for another CB came from Cromartie being cut.
