Just a random thought that popped into my mind whilst listening to a draft podcast today. How bad are the Jets at picking in the second round? Not great in any round but in recent times the second round has been really, really bad.

Too early to say what we have with Amaro and so starting from 2013

    2013 - Geno Smith....
    2012 - Stephen Hill.....
2011 - No pick (traded for Cromartie)
    2010 - Vlad Ducasse...
2009 - No pick (traded to move up for Sanchez....)
2008 - No pick (traded to move up for Dustin Keller....)
    2007 - David Harris - finally a good pick!
    2006 - Kellen Clemmons....
    2005 - Mike Nugent.... & Justin Miller.....
2004 - No pick (traded to the Titans for Justin McCareins......)
    2003 - Victor Hobson
2002 - Jon McGraw (traded away after a couple of seasons for a 7th round pick)

So basically 1 good pick/move from our second round selections in the last dozen drafts - maybe in 2015 we just take a punter or something on day 2?

The really sad thing is that Geno Smith is the 2nd best player the Jets have taken in the 2nd round since 2002.

    • Gastineau is a better player than anybody but Harris in that list and he's like 57.

Thankfully Amaro showed a lot of promise. He will be the game changer in this curse.

Mike Nugent is still by far the worst pick in the 2nd round. Not the worst player but by far the worst pick; so reactionary, picking a kicker.

God that's a BRUTAL list......1 good player in a decade (argument could be made for Cromartie, given the "win now circumstance, but that hurt the future)

it's even WORSE when you think of details like Keller being a 1st AND 2nd rd pick, Nugent* and Doug Jolley for a 1st (instead of Heath Miller)..... Safety being a CLEAR need with REED on the board, so they take Bryan Thomas (after taking TWO DEs in '00), "don't worry, we'll get the next Jon Lynch...err Jon McGraw, next round"

*speaking of, how hard do you think HERM pushed that Nugent pick? "If I had a better kicker we coulda went to the SUPER BOWL!"

Yeah that Mike Hickey had some pretty decent picks for the Jets while Michaels was around anyway.......he bombed with Lam Jones in '80 but did hit on Darrol Ray and Lance Mehl

The second round has been a bugaboo for decades. Reggie Rembert, David Williams (who got cut before training camp was over), Mark Merrill, Ralph Clayton. I think the best 2nd rounders the Jts have had were Wesley Walker and Mark Gastineau.
