The Bears.... Moving up from #3 to #2 to take a player they could have traded back for. Giving up their third, and fourth round picks this year and next year's third.... They just signed Glennon to a $45 million dollar deal with close to $19 million guaranteed . Should have stuck with Cutler..
Yep. Sometimes teams do silly things under pressure. Bears should have just let the draft flow to them.
If (big if) he turns out to be a good QB then it was the best move of this year's draft. There were rumors SF may have taken him at two as well. Who knows if they were true or not but Chicago obviously thought so.
If SF were planning to take their QB, they would never trade out. The mere fact SF were willing to trade means CHI could get Trub without moving. This was without a doubt the worst move not just in this draft, but in any draft. It will cost their GM his job regardless of how Trub turns out.
great deal for the niners - they had a great R1 and have another 3rd next year. good job by lynch so far.
It's not about a player or good/bad evaluation, or how many picks were given; not about giving too much for too little of a player. CHI gave 3 picks for literally nothing. The only way you can make it worse is by giving 4 picks for nothing.
The question is "Was there another team involved?" If so, then the Bears just got stuck in a bad situation. If a team was going to jump them and take Tribisky at 2, then they had to make this trade. If they were tricked by 49ers or just paranoid, then yeah it was terrible.
Supposedly there were other offers for the #2 but SF did not want to move down a lot, preferring to get their guy and extra picks.
Look at the trade ups that happened. I don't doubt people were gauging interest on the 2. Two future #1's were traded later in the draft process.
The Bears trade up likely triggered the other two moves. If Trubisky went early there were going to be some overdrafted QB's after that. Watson went on the 12, which is about where the 1st QB should have gone, likely Trubisky to the Browns.
Yup, I had Trubisky to the Browns at 12. The fact that a 1 year starter with a record of 8-5 went #2 overall is HILARIOUS. I mean its all a crap shoot. Record and experience are clearly not everything (Watson 33-3). QBs are always overdrafted, I am just so happy the Jets are rolling with Hack and then reassessing in 2018.
There will be one Qb from this draft that will be very good. Happens all the time, now which Qb will that be. That is the million dollar question. A lot of Jet fans are going to be pissed that they passed on that Qb. But unless someone can tell us which Qb that is, than it really doesn't matter after the fact.
it will be deshone kizer. there i said it. that said i still would rather draft who we drafted at the 6.
My understanding with Glennon is that they have an out after this year. So he'll hold the place for Trubisky until mid season or next year. The Bears trade up wasn't a good move and was a bit odd. But they were supposedly pretty sly in keeping it quiet that they wanted him though. Trubisky is a Sanchez clone in being overdrafted and underexperienced. He also has less experience than Sanchez did, given his offense. I see him busting. He floats his deep balls a ton and that was my red flag for him. He gets the ball there, but there's not enough zip on it to wide open receivers in my opinion. Arm strength isn't just how far you can throw it, but how fast you can get it to the open man. Those floating deep balls that are completed in college get intercepted in the NFL due to the superior closing speed of even the mediocre crop of NFL defensive backs.
They can cut him next year with only a $4.5 million cap hit. I think he is guaranteed $18.5 mill. Still giving up those pics when he would have been there is a head scratcher.
