Haley is better then Schottenheimer. Haley at least TRIED to put players in a position to succeed. Schotty was one of the worst OCs I've seen.
He was not good, he was below average. Our offense wasn't the reason why we got to those title games. Even so, I don't think you measure an OC's success by wins, but by production and improvement on that side of the ball.
Ever consider that since he was 76 years old at the time he may not have been as effective playing through throwing arm type injuries as he may have been in his younger years? "Awww coach I won 10 thousand ball games hurt since i was 14 but I think Imma sit today because it's time to take myself out." Riiiiight.
let me know when Brian has ever had talent even close to what Haley has had in Pitt or what he had in AZ. D was main reason but even truly great Ds(which we never had) need help from their offense. Our O's were good. if he was 76 then he was 77 the next year and played through pain having possibly the best season of his career in Minnesota. He didn't want to be here, he wasn't motivated to help us he was motivated to stick it to GB.
When Schotty was teamed with Sanchez, it was the Sanchez fans who most typically dumped on Schotty, claiming the problems with the O were pretty much solely the fault of the OC. I never thought Schotty was a good OC. But he wasnt' near as bad as the Sanchez Excusemakers used to bleat here incessantly.
He should have taken a tier 2 college head coaching job when he was fired by the Jets. Instead he interviewed for NFL jobs for long enough to establish conclusively that nobody in the NFL saw him as HC material. Now he's a tier 1 college offensive coordinator who is at least 3 years away from a college HC position and probably never going to have a shot at the NFL.
On 3rd down, After 8000 pre snap movements and 2 killed plays, the ball is finally snapped and no receiver is routed out past the first down marker. I always got the sense he thought he was too smart for the room and ended up outsmarting himself. Throwing 50 times against Seattle snow because they expect us to run all day. Anyone still have that GIf of that play? I believe it was against the Pats?
Yes Pats, 2011....in New England. 3rd and 5 and the recievers are running 2 yards out and heading toward the sidelines....Not a single receiver past the first down marker.
it always seemed to be a case like this. Played into the other teams strength or gameplans based on our weakness all the time. Always trying to be too cute.
