Typically GMs have a way they want to build a team. Like bradwaysux points out often, most teams like to build around a franchise QB, a good left tackle and a premere pass rusher. Rex has a cornerback fetish and wants to "ground and pound" on offense. Rex basically goes against the norm. A new GM may clash with Rex on what talent to bring in.
Just for giggles,,,,say Turner has zero interest in OC,,,,,,would that change anyone's thinking ? :shit:
If I was a GM, I personally would keep Rex because you get a freakin' pass for a year. If they suck next yr it's Tannys fault, and if they somehow make the playoffs, he'll look like a god.
A top candidate with a chance at a job that doesn't include a loudmouth, polarizing head coach with a creepy ass tattoo on his arm, who has lost the locker room? Yes.
The guy this shit franchise needs isn't a lazy fuck looking for a free pass. You want a winner who will mold this team in his vision for the long-term. The reason the jets are pure shit isn't a curse, bad luck, etc. it's about piss poor leadership and the simple principle of garbage in, garbage out.
If Woody is the one picking the GM I don't have high expectations that we will get a quality GM (if one even applies). The stipulation of keeping Rex and the manner this organization is run is going to deter the best candidates. I can't imagine a GM who is going rebuild a team for offense will want to work with a loud mouth coach who believes in ground n pound and allows people from with in undermine the offense. It's an NFL GM position so there will be plenty of people lining for the position. But of what caliber and experience.
I said in another thread a PFF tweet that said there is a relationship there with Tom Gamble, so it may not be that far fetched.
Agree. GMs and coaches are mutually exclusive. If the owner of the company I work for fired my boss, I would hope I could still keep my job. Or using Parcells terminology, you don't have to fire the cook because the person providing the ingredients ("buying the groceries") screwed up.
Word on the street huh? Great journalism! How's this Woody hired a company to look for candidates for potential GM. That's a fact! You really think he feels he's in a position to demand? New York papers and writers are a mess. Wonder what the Ryan's had for dinner? Front page NYDN tomorrow!
Yep. And as I said before it is Cimini so I don't know whether it's true or not. But I can see Woody saying that to potential candidates.
