He was doing fine 12 wks into the season...and everybody praised him...Job done on his behalf. Rest was up to the coaches and players.
Here's a doorway into the vortex: If Tannenbaum were a special talent as a GM, he would find a way to hire Cowher in spite of Cowher's demands. Of course, the universe would collapse-in on itself after that's resolved, but it would make a guy like me stop calling Tannenbaum and UNspecial accountant.
If there were ever any doubt the Jets have officially announced that they are the laughingstock of the NFL. Are you fucking kidding me? Keep Tannenbaum and let Cowher get away over personnel decisions? If it wasn't so sad it would be hilarious. I mean, what the fuck has Tannenbaum ever done for this organization? Oh, I know, he hired Mangini..wait...no, he drafted Gholston..wait.. Oh well, it's over now...once it hit the press the idea became history.
Honestly, Woody's position that both jobs is too much for one person just doesnt hold water when you consider that Cowher did it for 15 years in Pittsburgh, and had a hell of a lot more success than anything Tannenbaum's accomplished. If this really is the sticking point, and we dont end up with Cowher... I dont know, but thats just bad. People should go picket in front of woody's house or something. Now that Cowher's been spotted with interest in some job, theres blood in the water, its only a matter of time before some other owner steps in to give him a good home.
i agree about the questionable track record as well especially if we're NOT talking Bill Cowher. The last thing we need is a Mike Martz or a Marty Schotts or another so-so retread. Problem is, history is working against the Jets here. Saying that we bombed on all but 2 HC's is pretty good indicator. NY/NJ just isn't the place for a rookie HC. It just doesn't work when it comes to the Jets. Wrong team, wrong fanbase, wrong market, wrong media.
Ya just can't win with this team. Really, the franchise should just be liquidated at this point. Go back to selling baby oil. No fucking way in hell am I wasting Sundays to watch Marty ball. I don't give two shits what he's done in the regular season. After 18 playoff games he's won what? 4? If you haven't figured it out after 18 fucking trips, you're never going to get it. I am agreeing with TommyGreen on this one. This team has a lot of questions to answer during this offseason. You know why doesn't this team just reinstate Eric Mangini. If they're not willing to win then why don't we all just say fuggit! I am disappointed and sickened that this team won't even attempt to work something out with Cowher on this deal. This just proves that Woody doesn't care about us! He wants to feel bad for the fans for ending the season like we did. So... he has the chance to redeem himself in hiring an outstanding head coach and he turns his back on him (and us). Way to go!
Really, why would you even bother axing a guy less than 24 hours after the season, if you didn't already have an upgrade in the works? How fucking stupid are these guys? We don't need a YOUNG coach; we need to get past the experimental bullshit. Cowher is a proven winner, he has won a SB, that?s more then I can say for coaches of the past. It?s obvious something is broken, we need to fix it. Let Tanny walk, he has done absolutely nothing as a GM. Change is what we need.
If Woody brings in another rookie HC, I'm done with this team.. 40 years of nothing but heartache and grief isn't as bad as watching this new owner just suck the life out of this fanbase. I had a bad feeling when Woody bought this team. Just another rich guy's toy and its proving to be just that. Not only was Mangini in over his head, its appearing as though Woody is too. No WSS, No Jets Stadium, rookie HC's, it never f'n ends.. I just cancelled my Sunday Ticket renewal today. No need to spend that kind of money on the Jets anymore..
