Quinn would have probably sucked here anyway. If the Jets had players like Matt Ryan and Julio Jones then you could have a could have conversation. This team has garbage for talent at the most important position on the team. Sure, the Jets have a decent WR corps, but ATLs craps on ours.
Woody did not pass on Quinn. Quinn smartly passed on the Jets. Period, end of story. Time to move on from this thread.
It's not picking the wrong one, it's managing as an organization worse than Walter Matthau in the first half of the Bad News Bears. They probably could have found a great QB and HC combo by now, but when the culture of the organization is bush league and wandering in the dark, there's a pretty low ceiling for success.
Mostly because it happened last week in another thread. It'll happen at least five more times if the Falcons somehow beat New England in 2 weeks. And in that case, I'll enjoy it, because it means the Pats are tied for a record 4 SB losses.
Pretty sure the whole having a franchise QB who is in the MVP discussion is a bigger reason as to why the Falcons are in the SB and the Jets aren't, not the choice of coach.
There is no doubt in my mind that Dan Quinn is a better HC than Bowles but no coach would look good with what the Jets had on the roster this past season. Horrific QB play, no secondary, no EDGE rush amounts to losing records. Falcons have Matty Ice, a nice run game, can generate some pass rush with Vic Beasley, they are a much more talented team than the Jets. But, Dan Quinn actually knows how to manage a roster, knows how to manage a game, knows who's performing well. Bowles fails in all of these categories
I disagree big time with this on numerous levels. 1st off, a HC simply doesn't ride his coordinator's coat tails. Quinn made the smart decision to bring Shanahan in. He deserves credit for that, that's HCing. He would've brought Shanahan here anyway. secondly- he has done a good job with the defense anyway. Rodgers was hot, lighting up the league for the last 2 months. Yesterday he's shut out until late 3rd quarter. That's a great job. The defense did excellent work the week before with Seattle, keeping them out of check until garbage time as well. I don't think you watch Atlanta enough- Quinn has done a fantastic job. -- Lots of people saying Quinn wouldn't have came here, well, Idk, maybe maybe not, but the bigger issue is that Woody didn't even bother to wait and find out!!! He hurried to hire a POS like Bowles
I can't kill Woody for hiring Bowles....I dont think Quinn would have come here and Bowles was just as hot a candidate as Quinn at the time...maybe more so....but to keep Bowles when he regressed the way he has is an issue. We can't compare the Atlanta offense vs Jets obviously but we can compare the defense....the Jet D should be as good if not better than most even with the decline of Revis....Bowles showed absolutely no imagination, scheming or gameplan the entire year nor did he avail himself as a leader that runs a tight ship or makes good hires....he doesnt deserve to stay and should have been fired. 2017 is a lost season as I have no faith in Bowles improving as he's put in a must win position with a must rebuild roster....this is a disaster
Where was this thread last year after Carolina and Denver advanced to Super Bowl 50? With that said, we should've hired the Morristown, New Jersey native, Dan Quinn. Anyone saying the Jets had no chance to get him is talking out there ass.
The Jets talked to Quinn during his bye week and were prepared to fly out to Seattle for their 2nd interview with Quinn/potentially offer Quinn the job had Seattle lost to the Panthers in the postseason. On Monday, two days after the Seahawks playoff win, the Falcons were about to hire Bowles/ offer Todd Bowles the job. Their 2nd meeting with Bowles was scheduled ahead of the Jets. The Jets pushed their meeting so they could hire Bowles before ATL could. On that same day or two days later the Bears had hired Fox, who had been fired by Denver and from the beginning John Elway had his eyes set on hiring his old buddy, Gary Kubiak. The Raiders hired Del Rio on Monday and I believe the Niners had promoted Tomsula on that same day as well. Had the Jets waited, the only team on the market for a HC would have been them. And considering the fact that Quinn was willing to interview the the Jets once and was likely going to interview him again, he would have been the guy. It wasn't merely a choice between the Falcons/Jets.. his choice would have been the Jets or to be a DC for another year. This was a guy who was willing to interview with the he Browns in 2014 and take that job had they waited, so I'm fairly confident the Jets would have gotten him on board had they been patient.
