Of course Woody, who never even worked for his own riches, supports candidates who are all about the richest 1%. If he was poor/middle class and worked his way into billions, I would respect his position more. But to me, those kinds of people are the "I got mine, screw everyone else" type of people.

I don't think Trump was involved with the XFL. If he was, it wasn't well publicized and that's unusual for Trump. Trump was an owner of a team (N.J. Generals) of the long defunct U.S.F.L., so that's possibly what you're referring to.

Yup, the XFL didn't even last 4 years.

Every thing in FG214's post was correct but it was the USFL not the XFL. trumps ego decided to try and take on the NFL head to head and he got smoked.

I went to the first NJ General game ever--it was at the LA Coliseum against the LA Express in 1983. Was there with my wife-to-be visiting my future sister-in-law who lived in Marina del Rey. Did it on a lark.

Pretty bizarre game--sitting out in bright sunshine in shorts and t-shirts, about 30,000 people in a 90,000 seat stadium--most of them there watching as a curiosity.

    Herschel Walker's first pro game.

Do you have a program from the game? Might be worth something to memorabilia collectors.

I had forgotten about that. LOL If that's how the NFL did it, the Jets would definitely have been the worst on STs. They'd have never have won a single scramble.

On the first scramble, a guy dislocated his shoulder and was out the whole year.

There were eight teams but no owners other than one guy, Vince McMahon of the WWF. They had some interesting innovations in addition to the scramble. No kicking an extra point. For 1 extra point you lined up at the 2 yard line, but if you needed more than 1, you could try for up to 3 additional points by lining up further away from the goal line. Contact with a receiver was allowed right up to the point were the QB released the ball.

His name is Rod Smart. He actually played in the NFL after the XFL. Played for the Eagles and Panthers, and appeared in a Super Bowl in 2003. The only reason I know this is because when I googled the XFL for an earlier post, He Hate Me was the first thing that came up!!!

thanks for the memory Stokes! I actually watched a lot of those games back in the day.

    Hershel Walker
    Doug Flutie
    Reggie White
    Jim Kelly
    Steve Young
    Joe Cribbs
....and a bunch of others all got their start in the USFL.

The NFL was really getting anal (and still is) which made the USFL a breath of fresh air with their laid back approach to shit that didn't really matter, like what name you wanted on your jersey (oops, XFL again!).

    Here's wiki's history on the short-lived league:

Yes, Rod Smart. Thanks. I remember now. Since he played for the Panthers, I should have remembered.

XFL..... There is a name I haven't heard for a while. I'm surprised Portland never got a team. At least we made the USFL for a few months.
