WHy not a retractable roof or something......one that can stay open for every home game for both teams but will be able to close for other events....

Good. Corzine is trying to strong arm Woody and Mara in paying an additional 5 million in taxes + 30 million for infrastructure improvements (which the state originally promised to build) + 300 million for a roof + more in property taxes. All the while the Jets & Giants are investing over a billion dollars already.

In addition he is completely ignoring the tax revenue the practice facilities will bring into the state + the 350 Million the state will have to shelll out to improve the Meadowlands if a new stadium is not built (by contract the state is obligated).

So because Corzine is getting greedy he is not only going to cost the state all that increased revenue, but force it to spend over 350 million it otherwise would not have to.

If he is going to be this stupid, greedy, and stronge the teams because 1 billion dollars is not enough for him, I say Woody tell NJ to go screw themselves and build in Queens. I have nothing against him trying to get a better rent or tax deal for the state, but to try to get the teams to put out an additional 300 million for a stadium feature they do not want is insulting. If he wants it, and the teams agree (since it is their stadium), NJ should pay for it. Otherwise, screw them.

Bloomberg and Pataki need to make a pitch to bring the Jets back to Flushing. The Jersey deal is nearly dead and Woody must be PO'd eniugh to do it.Also from a PR point of view moving back to Queens is the right thing to do.

The Jets would be unlikely to want to ever share a stadium with the Mets again after the way the Mets treated them in Shea.

Well at least a Jets stadium in Queens would be nice...The Mets are building their own stadium by the auto yards behind Shea....no?

Just because there is a retractable roof on the stadium doesn't mean you have to USE it.

Its up to the TEAM to decide whether they want it opened or closed. So if they want to maintain the NorthEast edge..leave it OPEN>

On the bigger economic issue..I think, in this day and age, it would be foolish to build a stadium and NOT put a retractable roof on it.

The bigger question is..Who pays for it?

Watch what you wish for Woody may just move the Jets further west into the New Brunswick area.Rutgers has a state of the art practice and workout facility.Woody has ties in the area.Rutgers stadium could use an overhaul. The man is rich for a reason.

Woody is rich because he is heir to an empire. He is a smart business man, but let's not give more credit than due.

It would be interesting to see NY make another bid to the team, to gauge interest. Who knows? I still think a dual-purpose stadium in Flushing Meadow would be best for the Jets and Mets. (And I'm not even a Mets fan. I am a Queens native though, so it would be good for my home neighborhood.)

Plus it would remove the junkyards. What a friggin embarassment. This is what people see when they bring out-of-towners to Mets games, and the US Open. It's almost as bad as the Van Wyck being the first road international guests experience when arriving in NY.

Come on Bloomy and Pataki! Help us make our city great!

You want a roof...pay for it!

In case any of you didn't know, Corzine (gov of NJ) spent 600 million on his senatorial campaign, so a 300 mil. addition to the stadium should be no probleme to his backers. Otherwise, shut-up, and in the words of the immortal AC/DC...

I can't see the Jets ever sharing a stadium with the Mets again. Even though its been over 20 years there has to be a lot of hard feelings towards the Mets by Jets people. Getting locked out of the stadium for the first 5+ games of every football season and being treated like a second class citizens leaves many people still holding a grudge. The Mets are the reason the Jets went to Jersey and I seriously doubt they will ever be the reason they come back NY. Much better to have subserviant to the Giants and shine their shoes than share a stadium again with the Mets.

    Oh, Yeah!

That went down as the most expensive senatorial campaign in US history!

Uh, McGreevy tried to hired his gay lover as head of the State Homeland Security Department.

You might want to rethink your endorsement :)

Why wouldn't there be a Super Bowl if there was a roof? Of course there would be a Super Bowl. Detroit had 2 Super Bowls, both times when they built a Stadium with a roof. Minnesota had a Super Bowl. Why wouldn't New Jersey have a Super Bowl? The unofficial rule is, if you build a Stadium with a roof you get a Super Bowl. Add to that the fact that it is a suburb of Manhattan, and 10-12 miles from the Empire State building at that, and it's a no-brainer to put the game there. If you want buzz for the game, wouldn't Manhattan be sort of a good place to set up Super Bowl headquarters?

New Jersey Senate candidate sets spending record -- but loses ground

MORRISTOWN, New Jersey (CNN) -- Jon Corzine, the Democratic candidate for Senate in New Jersey, has deep pockets and the backing of party face cards like former Sen. Bill Bradley. He has spent more on this race than any Senate or gubernatorial candidate in history -- $45 million and counting.
