He's also turned up the heat on Idzik and working against Idzik, and now may even cause the Jets to get hit with a tampering charge and lose a draft pick. He's a clueless doofus, and I was he'd go broke and be forced to sell the team. I despise him as much as I did Hess. He's enough to make me wanna quit rooting for the Jets. I won't, but could because I despise him so much.
I see no reason to look on the Hess era more fondly. While Johnson is a clueless tool, he's light years better than Hess ever was. Figures the Jets would have two of the worst owners in sports history. We're all nuts to root for this team. It will never win anything again, and never get it right. They might as well just go ahead and fold the franchise. God forgive me, but I hate Woody Johnson. As long as that clown owns the team, the circus will ALWAYS be in town.
A non-story. Cimini's at the league meeting, nothing happens and he needs 800 words or so, so he takes what would normally be a throwaway quote and runs with it. Anybody who think this indicates a significant change in operations hasn't been paying attention. You'll never find an owner, GM or coach who says publicly "we have years to get better."
Heh. The fact is you have no idea how Idzik and Woody "work" together. And while I understand that Woody has a goal in mind when making this sort of comment, that in and of itself is not unreasonable, the context of the criticisms against him is that the Jets once again are a clown show where one part of the team, in this case Woody as the owner, is saying something not only different from what he said a couple of months ago. It is different from what the GM says. Why do you think many fans are disappointed in Woody? and aer "always" wrong about him?
You're right, I don't know how they work together and neither do you. But one can assume that Woody communicates often with the guy who runs his billion dollar football team.
Woody Johnson is an assclown. Born on third and thinks he hit a triple. He knows nothing about anything and if life's rewards were based on merit alone he'd be picking up dog shit.
It doesn't have to be that extreme - there are so many ways to frame a statement. "We're building this team the right way, we're building to last." No mention of not winning games, no mention of not having time for patience. Johnson should realise that what he says will be reported and spun by the media. Why give them any ammunition to work with?
"we want to win now" means what is is striving for and that he is not content with the philosophy of putting off success. that doesn't equate to being unreasonable when it comes to evaluating Rex Ryan and Ryan being under pressure if the team doesn't make the playoffs. sure, if they are an under .500 team his job is likely in jeopardy, but that would be reasonable anyways.
WOODY JOHN THE HELL YOU DOIN I see Woody is back to his loudmouth days, thought that stopped when he begged for Tebow.
You mean he hasn't really learned anything after his famous: "You can never have enough Tim Tebow" moment? Who wuddathunkit.
If the team is rebuilding, how can you put Rex on the hot seat while simultaneously downgrading the defense? It doesn't make sense. So they are going to take away Rex's weapons and then be shocked if the team takes a step back? They are trying to build long term success. Sounds to me like another quote blown out of proportion by the media. Shocker. Woody wasn't indicating anything remotely close to that. Obviously everybody wants success sooner rather than later. This article deserves a C'mon man!
Please tell me this is satire! If so it's gold! And people, please take off those tin foils cats. Idzik is building/managing the team, NOT Woody. He's not sitting back there in the shadows pulling strings like Jerry Jones and telling the GM what he has to do. He's just the owner, he's not supposed to be a football genius. Leave that part to Idzik.
Sometimes I wish someone would come a long and buy the Jets from Woody Johnson, cannot stand this guy at all. he cares nothing about football.
He didn't turn up the heat on Ryan at all, that's just Cimini speak. He said he wants to win now and I'm glad he did. If anything he turned up the heat on Idzik, it's his job to put together a team that can win now. Anybody who thinks we have that now is delusional.
If he put the team up for sale, I am virtually certain that Cablevision would buy the team. The Knicks and Rangers have not had the kind of success that I want for the Jets, so I think it would be a terrible thing if Woody sells the team. If Idzik can build up the team, we'll be alright- I feel hopeful about the Jets and I'm fine with the ownership. Unfortunately, neither Mark Cuban nor The Ghost of Steve Jobs is going to come along and buy the NY Jets if they went up for sale. Most likely, it would be Cablevision/Dolan or maybe CA/Wang. Neither one of those owners has had the kind of track record with the teams they've owned that I want for the Jets. The Knicks have been terrible. Isiah Thomas was a really bad GM, and got that big extension for no reason. The Knicks let Jeremy Lin go away for no reason. When Carmello Anthony leaves, they will be a bottom feeder again. The Rangers aren't a disaster, but they still haven't won anything since 1994 when the team was sold. The Islanders hired a Stanley Cup winning GM- then fired him less than 2 months later to replace him with the goalie. He then attempted (and somehow failed) to trade an entire year's worth of picks to move up in the first round. He is still their GM. I don't want the Jets owned by that kind of owner. The other possibility might be some hedge fund guy we've never heard of. Those types often feel like they're experts at running every kind of business, but meanwhile they are only experts in the financial world. That kind of owner will either view it as a cool trophy and not care at all about the team, or he'll get overly involved and view it as a real life fantasy football team a la Jerry Jones. I don't want either type of owner. Woody is not perfect, but I have confidence in him as the owner and I think he learned not to over-reach after the Tebow stuff. I think the Jets can and will win a Super Bowl under his ownership. Cablevision and CA, I would see them as huge downgrades from Woody. It's not just about hoping you get a better owner, you have to consider who would be likely to buy the team.
