Exactly, dont do the interview then. I have no problem with Woody making a stance and saying you need to honor your contract, but how he said it was just sketchy for lack of words. One thing I will not call Woody is cheap. Yes hes a buisnessman first but the dude pays a shitload of money year in and year out on FAs and getting who we need. He is not cheap
That was fine. I can give a shit that he said the above. What bothered me was the following which really made him look like he was lying: Q: Was Revis promised a new contract A: I don't think so. Maybe Mike said we would look at it.~~~~~~ or there abouts. Q: You mean Mike as in Mike Tannenbaum? A:Yes Q: Did Mike promise a new contract? A: Well I do not know what was said but he may have mentioned an extension Q: Is Revis going to affect the team. A: You have to ask Rex Lmao.... He looked like he was lying. He/MikeT have been on record as saying that Revis outplayed his contract. He would have been fine just telling the truth. Shit he would have been better hiding behind the "I can not answer we are in negotiations". Then the last one is what cracked me up. He is pretty much the best player on the team. That last answer is just ridiculous. Anyway, as I stated before I still have not taken sides here. That said Woodrow looked like a douchebag.
That's not what I was sayin, I was Summing up Woody's Stand, Of course I know it's not all over, but the message will still resonate even through any more drama, and/or further negotiations....."Im not giving in to you Revis....dude what are YOU smokin'? you seem to have limited mental capacity, color outside the lines a bit brother.....
Both sides need to make concessions. From what we've heard the Jets have been the only ones to concede anything. They don't even have to offer him anything, and they have. The Jets camp is the one being unreasonable. More and more people are coming to realize that.
Talking about the reallocation rule (30% rule) Mike T named a bunch of deals w/ different sets of rules that adds "Layers of Complexities" Saying they have to "Work around" the rules and that signing the other players w or w/o Revis are going to be difficult either way!
In the meantime the nightly news stations here in NY at the 5 O'Clock hour are running with the sports headlines, "Jets Change Their Tune With Revis." They're quoting Ryan as saying "no one is bigger than the system" or some such thing to that affect (I'm paraphrasing). What we don't need now is posturing, but the news media is of course making it into a huge story and making it seem like posturing on Ryan's part.
LOL! You think he's going to lose endorsements because he's selfish? Tiger Woods is the most publicly selfish athlete I can think of and he's a BILLIONAIRE! Come on, man, stop fooling yourself here. Revis is going to end up getting TWICE as many endorsements just for the free press this situation gives his brand name. For that, I envy him, although I don't like the non-negotiation stance that either side has taken. Casual fans are coming to know him this week, because every article they read is telling them that he's the best, and wants to be paid the best. The only reason that Woody is trying to do damage control here is because he needs to sell tickets. Revis isn't losing anything outside of his chance to play this year, and his chances at a quick contract. He's going to get paid.
I think the lockout, Elvis Presley and Santa Claus are all playing poker in a room somewhere in Iowa.
What endorsements is he going to get if he doesn't play? No one will care anymore once he and the Jets finally agree on a contract, and chances are most fans will forget as well, but he runs the risk of sitting out a season in the prime of his career. That's worse for him than it is for the Jets.
This has gotten out of hand imo. But people love it. every where I go, everyones talking about the Jets. Why else do you think espn would do a segment on us, cuz they know people will watch. its kinda all wierd to me tho
Did I say he's not going to play? Was that even in the post that I responded to? You said he'd lose endorsements because he was painted as a selfish player. He won't. Of course he'll lose endorsements if he doesn't play in 2010. I doubt that happens, but we'll see. Regardless, the subject of the thread is not Revis' endorsements, it's Woody and his mumbling idiot act on a national sports network. And it served little to no purpose. He was ill-informed and came off terrible, and it's not making the situation better - only worse. You can't possibly think that that interview made the Jets look like the good guys.
You're right, the interview isn't going to stop him from getting endorsements, but there's a lot of misinformation out there, so Woody made the situation clear. Revis is under contract, and refuses to play until he's paid more. At the very least it'll keep others from passing judgment on the Jets organization based on the crap that the Revis camp is spewing.
Did we watch the same interview? The only thing that Woody made clear to me is that his and Mike Tannenbaum's word isn't worth a heel full of dogshit. Other than that, I think things are status quo.
I agree with this ^ 110% and he has to see that for what it is, I just hope that they can agree on an guaranteed amount that doesnt affect the other deserving players in need of an extention Myself its just hard for me to fathom being paid millions of dollars to play the game that I love living in the greatest city in the world all at the age of 25 (the age I turn next month) and you cant sit down and work out a deal where your going to be paid more millions on top of what you've already got... he should do it for a ring bottom line
Jesus did he look awful. He should have just told the truth or said," I can not answer the Revis stuff." What he said was a joke and really made him come off like a douchebag. There was no benefit to this interview. Doesn't he have a freaking publicist? Someone that could say um "NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Now they are going to lose the most important thing at this point, the court of public opinion. This interview just makes this whole thing more frustrating....oh well.
He could have played that better. But he did clarify that the Jets never promised Revis anything just that they'll talk about a contract extension. But do you honestly think this entire Revis situation started with Tanny talking to Revis about a possible extension? It's becoming very evident based on his and his agents actions that he was planning this even before the playoffs.
