We lose money this year but save $6 million in the long run. We also have holes at OLBx2, ILB, SS, FS(?), QB, RB, TE (?), G, and RT. We're STACKED at CB. Take the picks, rebuild the team so that 3-4 years down the road we're back in the thick of things.
Revis is in the 50%+ tax bracket...so if he gets $16M/yr, he hands The Man $8M+/yr, then hands his agent $480,000/yr (3%). And that's before he pays his homie to hand trim his beard. Bottom line if Revis asks for $16M he ends up with closer to $7M. TAX THE RICH!!! And Obama wants to raise taxes on the Revis' of the world another 10%.
Manish was on NFL Network today. I agree with him. Dont know if Revis is ready. And he has held out twice already. Manish basically said Woody is not putting up with the hold out shit anymore.
C'mon, BigBlocker, the whole premise of your current displeasure with Jets is based on Woody making personnel decision re Revis on his own and on Jets not even trying to negotiate new contract with DR. If this is true, I might be willing to side with you, although to be honest I think Revis is the only valuable chip we have and I think he should be traded because it's the only chance Jets have for rebuilding. That said, if you're right, you've got a really valid grudge with Woody. The question however is how do you know that? There were no reports pointing at Johnson as the sole decision maker, were there?
Sure there were. With the same sourcing, as Mevi$ highest paid defensive player demand. But, you can't expect him to acknowledge that hole in his argument.
Were there? Seriously, all I'm asking is for one pre Jan 18th reference that says Woody has decided to deal Revis. Seriously, any beat writers will do, "anonymous sources" is fine, i won't even call Cimini an a$$.
I think this is driving a lot of the trade talk. These last several holdouts must have really pissed Woody off and now, given all the other needs this team has, I doubt if Woody is in the mood to play the money game with Revis again. There's no doubt in my mind that behind the scenes, Woody wouldn't shed a tear if Revis is traded but I don't think Woody is gonna back up the money truck to keep Revis either. Interesting situation that has yet to play itself out.
Maybe I didn't make it clear... I'm not trying to stfu Blocker. His argument is very valid, as long as its premise is real. Right now it appears that the whole argument is based on air an opinion, not facts, even if they are unverified ones. Like I said, even a bullshit anonymous source would do.
i just still believe we can keep revis, next year our cap could be better. sure he wants a huge paycheck, but seriously its all apart of negotiation. if you want lets say 12 million, you probably ask for 14 million. all of you guys act like if we get these picks, they'll automatically be effective. whats to stop us for drafting another vernon gholston or vlad ducasse? revis is the best defensive player in the league. keep him and consider trading cro
Just curious, what if after next year the Jets & Niners offer Revis essentially the same deal? Who does he sign with, "I wanna retire a Jet" ot the "awesome" Niners?
if the jets make revis play out the contract he is going to make it impossible for them to resign him. especially since they dont feel he has value to them anymore other than as a trade piece. that is until cromartie goes back to being his completely inconsistent self this year.
What's the alternative though? Sign Revis to a huge deal coming off an ACL and with the knowledge that he's not the key piece in the puzzle? The Patriots have it right. The only guy worth a huge contract is the hall of fame bound QB. They'll let anybody else walk if the price of keeping them is to upset that arrangement.
First of all, you like everyone else here should have Hobbes on ignore. He is a troll, and the only problem I have with him now is when others quote him. As for Woody, perhaps you have not been paying attention. It has been variously reported that he talked to other GM candidates about wanting to trade Revis. Here is one link, from January 23rd, which of course would have had to be well before Idzik could have assessed the roster and made a decision of such magnitude as trading Revis is: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...nson-wants-to-explore-a-darrelle-revis-trade/ There are others. You can google as well as i can. It makes sense, too. Johnson is not an owner like the Ravens' owner, who lets the football people run things on their own. With Tanny gone, Rex clearly fond of keeping Revis, and Idzik new to the job, who else would have been, could have been, behind the widely reported expression of Jet interest in dealing Revis? No one. It's not worth talking about more than I have in response to you. Moving on here.... More important is the problem some have here with understanding the game and the value of a shut down corner. As for those making the quite specious argument that in 2011 the Jets gave up tremendous yardage to TE's torching them over the middle, the facts say otherwise. The Jet pass D in 2011 was ranked fifth in both passing yards and yards per attempt. And that was in a year that the safeties were mediocre, and it first became apparent that the linebacking corps was getting too slow. It is instead rather amazing that the Jet pass D was as good as it was when it was relying on the corners to make up for weak personnel pretty much everywhere else when it came to passing defense. Learn the game, Revis haters. You will learn to love him.
It does not take four years of mediocre football to become a contender. If the Jets retain Revis and change out Sanchez for even a middle of the road Qb, they can be a playoff team in 14.
Revis haters believe two birds in the bush is worth twice as much as one in the hand. Actually from the sound of some here assuming draft picks will be automatically transformed into hall of famers, they almost sound like they've never heard of Gholston and Ducasse.
