Look closer and you'll see that those two situations were 35+ year old qbs, with highly touted heir-apparents already in place (or about to be in the Colts case)to replace them...that is entirely different from the Jets situation and Revis.

Please don't speak for everyone...I don't drink beer, but I would certainly utter a variation of that phrase you just quoted

I think Nagle was pointing out that your prediction of an improved D next year assumes Revis is back. With Kyle Wilson in man coverage against an oppoenent's starting wideout, the ball will be in the air before the pass rushers can even shed their block, let alone get to the Qb.

In case you are wondering, I am not a Kyle Wilson fan.

    I politely disagree.

These threads remind me of "Tebowmania". Just a different name. I just don't get it.

For me, part of being a Jet fan is being a football fan. Obviously. I was as of course everyone here was, first a football fan, and then became a Jet fan.

Like most here, I suppose, I also watch football games the Jets are not in, and not just to see how the outcome might affect the Jets, like when Miami plays NE. Sometimes I watch for the pleasure of watching the game.

Well I also like to feel the pleasure of watching the game when the Jets are playing, too, altough there has not been much of htat lately.

I am not and have never been a Giants fan, for example, but I sure loved watching Eli Manning take the Pats apart. And not just to see the Pats lose, either, but the way Eli played, how well he played, to beat NE.

So yes, part of enjoying watching the Jets is not limited to seeing them win as a team. I also enjoy individual performances within the game.

The simple fact is that Darrelle Revis is one of the best players ever to play on the Jets. There is something to be said for keeping him on hte team for the pure pleasure of watching an expert at the sport play his game.

We can debate how important that should be in comparison to other situations. But it is unfair to make light of the fan interest in having the pleasure of watching someone play football at the highest level. If someone can't relate to that, I don't think they are a real fan of the game.

I have been a fan thirty years. I've seen many great players come and go. I have never seen a championship. I want to see a championship. I'm sorry that the only way to build a championship team interferes with your (and other's) hero worship, but it does. And I am far more concerned with my desire to see a Super Bowl championship than your desire to watch Revis on Sundays (and not win a championship).

I will lose much sleep tonight.

Of course...my favorite part of watching the Jets is Revis, I understand if that's not everyone's view (or the norm), but doubt I'm alone.

Corner has always been my favorite position in football because I view it as the most challenging. And he just plays it at a different level than anyone else I've ever watched (disclaimer: I'm only 25 so I don't remember that much Deon)

I wrote about this a little over a month ago.

The short of it is, Revis is not worth the price tag he wants because he only directly contributes to about 17% of the defensive snaps in a given season. He has little to no bearing on the running game and opposing quarterbacks can simply choose to pick on the other guy instead. A pass rusher provides pressure on every drop back and also helps in the running game.

Plus, our team needs to be rebuilt, the picks and extra cap space freed up over the next two seasons is much more important to us right now. If we extend Revis we're essentially going to start getting better as he begins to decline (if he doesn't already after this knee injury).

You don't jam 1/6th of your cap space into a guy that doesn't even affect a fourth of the plays run.

You necer saw a championship when the jets did not have Revis, either.

"the only way to build a championship..." Heh. that's pretty funny.

In fact there are a number of ways to build a championship. You don't start by getting rid of your best player without even trying to reach a deal with him.

This is ridiculous. The O has to consider Revis on every snap he is in on.

Revis taking on the opponent's best receiver in man coverage, as compared to double coverage, adds another player to the rest of the D, allowing the DC to shift their coverage to other areas. If you don't understand that, you don't understand the game.

both were h.o.f. players that brought their cities championships and fans couldn't fathom seeing in another uniform. yet the tough but right decision was to let them go and the g.m.'s had the stones to do it.
jet fans are always complaining we don't do things like the well run teams.
    well here is our oppurtunity.

ok, I gotta ask you how do you know that
    (a) that Woody made this decision and that
    (b) if it was indeed Woody who made it, he did it on his own, without consulting with anyone?

Outside of this message board and occasional sports media article during a slow news cycle, I don't remember talks re DR trade before Idzik got in. If anything, the sequence of events indicates that upon evaluation it was the new GM who made decision to move DR.

One more thing... How do you know Jets didn't talk to Revis about new contract? Again, was there a report that I missed?

No they don't. All they need to do is run a 9 route, in 11 or 10 personnell, and keep getting first downs.

    See Asompugh, nnamdi.

If Revis holds out, or pulls a no-show for even one day of training camp, we own him for 2014 and 2015 for about $3M/yr.

So what I'm thinking is this....shhhhh...come closer.....

He won't. He will have a phantom Hamstring injury all season, that will disappear in his private free agent workouts.

Right, but Cromartie couldn't do that well-enough at a cheaper pricetag? You don't build a defense around a corner. The Jets had Revis and Cromartie in 2011 and they still got torched over the middle by TEs and slot receivers because we couldn't get to the QB.

Not worth the money, and certainly not for a rebuilding team like the Jets.

You guys act like trading Revis means we get a pass rush. Trading him actually hurts us financially and talent wise.

And who thinks he's getting 1/6 of the cap, stop talking out the ass and making asinine statements about what he wants. The most I'd give him 14M a year, I'd hope to sign him at 12M but I'm stopping at 14M the most

    Its funny tho

    Yankee fans wanna trade Cano
    Jet fans wanna trade Revis
Knicks fans want Carmelo to stop shooting

smfh New York fan bases are fucked up in the head sometimes

lmao they wont even get off the line the way Revis jams WR's

Now with Cromartie playing at a high level, hopefully Kyle keeps improving and we get a cover safety so Landry if he's back can free lance. That secondary will be lethal
