If the Jets really want to trade Revis maybe they should till the season starts and plays a couple games. That way, if he is back to his old self then the Jets could get more value out of him since his injury won't be as big of an issue (could help in the 2014 draft that has a lot of offensive talent) and if he is hindered by the injury then we can resign him for less (but then his value will drop and his performance will mostly likely never be the same). The best situation that I can see is to resign a healthy Revis for a reasonable price, but if healthy he will probably command that 16 million a year which is too high for a cornerback.
You could really blame that one (West Side Stadium) on Dolan (Cablevision-MSG) and New York State Assembly Speaker $heldon $ilver.
The Jets saved about 3M last year on the cap, which supposedly could go onto this years cap. Yes Woody spends the money, its just that it may not be the best thing for the team to sign Revis to 16M per year, one because he is coming off a major injury, and two thats alot of money for anyone that's not a franchise QB, even if Revis is a great CB.
Yes I am suggesting that. That is what you hire/fire GM's for. Those guys made a career in football, not from their parents inheritance - they obviously are much more knowledgeable with the NFL salary Cap and player negotiations than he is. If they fail - fire them. But stick to what you know. If I own a house and need plumbing work done - I call a plumber. If he does terrible work I fire him, but when I hire a new plumber I don't tell him how to plumb...
Yeah but you tell the plumber about the grounding problem the electrician hasn't been able to fix for the last couple of years that gives you occasional static shocks when you touch a faucet. Or do you just stand by and wait to see if his hair stands up on end when he finds out himself? The point is that when you have an unusual situation you let the people who are going to have to deal with it know about it ahead of time. I'd expect Woody to have briefed Idzik about the issues that he knows about from his prior experiences dealing with Revis and his agents.
Can't argue that...but that is what being a fan is, and I personally believe that management and ownership have to realize that attachment carries significant value with the fan base
I also see nothing generally wrong with testing the waters. But when that is all they are doing, and appear to not even be contemplating an attempt to keep Revis, it is an unbalanced and really stupid approach that almost certainly reflects Woody's emotional take on teh situation.
First of all it was not like some huge secret that there were issues with the way contract negotiations went the last time, but even so the point is not giving Idzik a heads up. It is the apparent decision Woody made on his own that he does not want to pay Revis that is the problem here.
It's prioritizing I would figure. You test the waters to try to grab draft picks for this draft. If nothing happens, you start talking with the agents more seriously
You are 100% correct, I am way more attached to Revis than the rest of the team. Ever since Curtis retired, we have had no one even close to a HOF on this team. When Revis is gone and the team is in last place, get ready for the tv blackouts. No way they are selling out games.
i disagree with this. the team must operate with cold calculated decisions. emotions and fans' feelings should not come into play. they have to decide what is vest for the team and execute it. if they are right they will win and the fans will forgive.if they are wrong they will be gone. you only have to look at the packers with favre and the colts with manning for perfect examples.
Revis was promised that after he signed that band-aid deal they'd go back to the table and negotiate a new deal. Revis didn't hold out anymore, didn't even threaten to. Showed up, got hurt and now rumors of the Jets shopping him surface. Revis did nothing wrong in this situation. If you heard what Thomas Dimitroff said, Atlanta wants to take care of their guys before they take care of others. Same as San Francisco and every other great team. Yet the Jets put themselves in this shit situation by taking care of other guys(Holmes, Cromartie, Scott, Pace), over paying almost all of our own guys(Harris, Sanchez) and then low-balling the best player on our team, the best defender in the NFL and a true game changer(Revis) Blame management not Revis, in the NFL you gotta get everything you can the same way Megatron did, AP did, Flacco did, Super Mario did, etc...
the fan base is fed up with Woody's act, he's running this team into the ground. I for one will not waste any money on tickets
If I really thought that what you suggest is what in fact is gonig on here, I would take a nap now, sleeping soundly, rather than post my complaints and concerns here. But from what I see and hear, and given the impact Woody has had on the past, I can't share your lack of concern. I would be happy to be totally wrong here, but I think Woody decided before Idzik got here that he wants to deal Revis. And not merely weigh options and, if keeping Revis appears best, do that. I think Woody wants him gone, period. Plus there's nothing stopping them from fielding offers and expressions of interest on one hand and opening discussions with Revis on the other. How can the Jets weigh any expression of interest from another team if they have no good idea what their options are in keeping Revis??? On top of that, it would actually help their position in fielding contacts from other teams if they gave the perception that keeping Revis is a realistic option for the Jets. Looking as they do like they want to get rid of him no matter what actually lowers their leverage with other teams. No, I can't share your relative optimism here.
If you have an electric issue that is linked to your water pipes, you have a major problem that should be fixed BEFORE you have any plumber come over to work on your plumbing or even touch it. In fact you shouldn't even use your shower if that's the case. The Revis situation was on hard knocks. I'm pretty sure Izzy is aware, and that Woody and him have already talked about that.
