Agreed 100%. I rooted for the guy and would still do if he didn't sign with the Pats. That being said he never would have exceled here liek he has in New England because they run a system more suited for his skills.

Correct me if I'm wrong here...but isn't it a coaches job to put good players in a position to be successful.

Woodhead is an outstanding football player, size notwithstanding.

Given the chance, and with any decent coaching...Woodhead would succeed.

IDK - woodhead is one jarring hit from getting seriously injured. of course u can say that about any player but to me he appears frail - especially in person.

hopefully it doesn't happen but man he looks tiny out there.

In Woody's defense, much like Martin he seems to know how to not take the big hit.

 

Woodhead always showed flashes of talent, but i think his success has more to do with Tom brady, the spread offense, their offensive line, and the way the patriots use RB's in the passing game.

 

Are you telling me that Danny Woodhead, averaging 34 yards per game rushing, is now an effective runner and outstanding football player?

Literally nobody would give a shit about Woodhead if he wasn't short and white, and thus a vessel through which everyone can vicariously live out their NFL fantasies.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis is a legitimately dangerous back, maybe people should start focusing on his impact on the Patriots.

 

Yards per game is a terrible stat to judge someone off of. Kevin Faulk has something like 3k career rushing yards over 11 seasons but is widely reguarded as one of the top 3rd down backs in the NFL. Or was, before injury. You can't just judge a situational/role player on total yards when he isn't the featured workhorse.

Woodhead is a change of pace/3rd down RB. He will never get the oppurtunity to run the ball 15-25 times a game, it's not what he is built for. He can, however, break loose a 10-15 yard run on 3rd down by making someone miss when the defense expects a pass, or catch a pass out of the backfield when they expect a run.

Nobody(with a clue) has said he "can't play". The problem is he wasn't a good fit for our system, but he fits the Patriots system perfectly.

This whole thing is really getting tiresome. People are demanding that others say Woodhead is good and we are idiots for cutting him. What they should be saying is Woodhead is good and the Patriots are smart for picking up a player who perfectly fits their system.

I don't know, the whole system thing is a nice rationale but football is football. I love Rex and Tannenbaum and what they've done for the team overall, but when you read and hear their quotes they even sound like they'd perfer a do-over on that one. I think if he hadn't gone to New England and helped them overcome losing Faulk and Moss most people here wouldn't still be concerned about it. He's the kind of guy you want to root for, but he had to go there.

he certainly can't play ST....we found that out the hard way.
