I wouldn't touch him at 30, and I don't think the FO likes him that well anyway. There's the question of where to play him as well. We'd have to trade WAY back before I'd like to see the team take a chance on his desire.
In Ryan's scheme, a front seven defender doesn't necessarily have to have a set position - Wilson is a guy that play multiple roles in different fronts. I doubt he'll be a Jet, but the kind of versatility that he offers could be huge for our defense. Desire to play the game is such an overblown thing around here because of Vernon Gholston. You put kids like Marvin Austin or Martez Wilson in a winning environment with a player's coach and some outstanding veteran leaders, and you'll get more than enough out of them.
The first point is true. I like the idea of someone who can play ILB and take over for Scott eventually. I'd just rather have someone who's a pure 3-4 OLB that early. Like I said, I'd take him later.
Akeem Ayers is probably the only AVAILABLE prospect that fits that description. The Justin Houston fan club will argue that Houston also fits, but I disagree. Brooks Reed is not a pure 3-4 OLB.
And like I said, if we're talking about 30, Ayers is the only one I'd want. Otherwise, my preference is a trade back.
That is a great point... and one that is often over-looked. A player that doesn't fit very well a traditional 34D team might fit what the Jets do very well...
I'm going to have to say Ayers or Taylor if either are on the board at 30. if both are on the board at 30 I'd prefer Ayers but I suspect the Jets would go for Taylor.
