have been watching the all22 coaching film from some of the games and I'm not sure that the run game/blocking problems can be placed squarely on the players. What I'm seeing is some terrible blocking schemes/play design. One play against the 49'ers is illustrative. We went with an unbalanced line to the left, leaving guard and tackle to the right. TE motions over to the right and the ball gets handed to Greene. 49'ers had 2 Dlinemen on that side of the line and a linebacker. Another defender came over following the TE in motion. That's 4 defenders against 3 blockers, and that's not counting the Safety 12 yards deep. So, where do we run the ball ? Yep, 3 blockers against 4 defenders so that is where we go. It's all straight ahead blocking. No pulling guard or tackle. No seal blocks leveraging the Dline. Absolutely terrible design. Unless your RB's name is Barry Sanders, he's not going to get consistent yards running such a play. Line backers are standing there waiting in the A and B gaps.
It's funny we still see people post shit like this because of a few bad plays they remember from the 2011 preseason. He's been pretty good this year.
He's been pretty solid this year, yes indeed he has and I've noted that in other threads. Take a joke. It might make the rest of this season bearable.
that play needs to be flipped or audible out of/into a pass. a 4th year player should be able to recognize that and an OC should be able to coach his player to make that read and make that change.
Slauson is a JAG making peanuts (in NFL terms) sitting between an elite C & very highly paid LT. If you're gonna replace him then it needs to be somebody very cheap because there's not a lot of cap space on this roster. As far as Vlad is concerned, Moore is gonna retire. So you can jump to Vlad now & then be forced to insert Slauson next season .... or you can leave Slauson in there & then be forced to insert Vlad next season. With those options, I'd rather leave Slauson at the spot he's most comfortable with (LG) & focus only on Vlad playing training for RG.
thanks for posting the pics. Much easier to grasp concepts & saves a lot of typing/reading. Plays like this are where you get killed by having a RB that just puts his head down & runs forward blindly. Here's what I'm worried about most. How about the realistic scenario where Sparano could have sent in a primary play & backup play for Sanchez to audible to. Sanchez doesn't recognize it & a doomed offensive play just unravels and can only be salvaged if RB has good vision & an ability to cut back. I'm just not seeing Sparano or any OC sending in a play & telling the QB that this needs to be run no matter what happens & don't give a damn what you see pre-snap ... run the play sideline gives you.
The Jets have to play like they are desperate since just don't have such great personnel or coaching. Trick plays, including more Tebow and surprise on-side kicks, etc.
Looks like Greene simply picked the wrong gap to hit, the other side would obviously be in our favor in such a design. The OL doesn't even get pushed back in that sequence, a rarity in that game. Usually they got tossed 4 yards back that day. Edit: Also looks like Rueland was late on his assignment. He's the lead blocker.
We pretty much need to improve our game in all aspects. -Kyle Wilson needs to step up his game big time -Our linebackers need to tackle better and do a better job setting the edge -Our receivers needs to stop dropping passes -Our offensive line need to step up big time in run blocking and pass protection -D line need to get healthy -Aaron Maybin needs to step it up - Pace needs to stop playing
Bingo, this is our formula for success. We have to go back to living and dying by the run. While I know that our run blocking is not as good as 2009, we do have a plethora of running backs to mix it up. Greene is the 1-2 yard, punch it in type of guy. Powells got good vision and should be running more off tackle plays. McKnight can take tosses and screens towards the sidelines (avoiding fumbles). Plus, we have Tebow who is a threat to pass and weighs 250 pounds to boot. I no longer believe in Sanchez to be a Quarterback that can lead this team. He can only produce when the attention is off of him. Sanchez is a below average quarterback right now, but if we can get some run game going then he has the potential to go back to being the game manager in years past.
I'd like to see more rollouts, both play action and sprint action from Sanchez/Sparano. Would like to see more no-huddle/"muddle-huddle" by the offense Obviously Sanchez and Rodgers are nowhere near the same class as QB, but watching the Packers offensive-coordinator putting Rodgers into positions to succeed by having a big roll out to the right followed by the far side receiver running a deep crossing pattern gives Rodgers opportunities to chuck it downfield into good opportunities
If we're sticking with Sanchez, then I'd suggest having our receivers wear the uniform of the opposing team. Or keeping 10 guys in on pass protection, and chucking it out of bounds 3 times in a row with a fake punt mixed in every now and then. Or maybe just have Sanchez vomit on the ball and run with it, and hopefully the defense won't want to touch it.
Use his athletic ability. He can throw on the run, he is quicker than expected, and can keep a defense with is legs. Use the no huddle/muddle like you said Sanchez looks his best in that when the defense are on their heels. He seems to play better when he calls his own plays or they just go out there and run plays. It also slows the defense down from lining up big blitzes and keeps them out of position. I also want to see more Joe McKnight if healthy. He's more explosive than Greene. We need to get him and Kerley the ball a lot in space and let Hill fight for some balls. Throw it deep to him. Worst case, long INT like a punt. Better cases, PI, catch, TD, defensive holding, etc. If they switched jerseys we would be in more trouble since he has more TDs than INTs and more completions than INTs. Good joke.
Yeah ... he's been great. There are 31 QBs starting for other teams in the NFL, and he's outplayed all but 29 of them.
You gotta go back to the run and play good D formula that we successfully implemented in 09/10. Question is, can we with this OL/RBs? We need a game breaker.
Nothing can be done, We are not winning the next 8 games, We all see what this team is this season, and nothing ive seen so far makes me think we can win 8 straight, we haven't even won 2 in a row yet, the talent we have on this team isn't gonna get better in the span of a two week bye
To win the next 8 games son??? We need Jesus, and a ton of miracles. No really we need more realistic expectations. To win 6 of the next 8 games, and finish above .500 we need, in this order: We need to find a way to consistently get pressure on the QB. Keep sending disguised blitzes. I love seeing the DBs fly in when nobody expects it. We need to keep Coples in on the majority of the snaps,
