Tough, smart, fluid. Been a while since we had a feature back in (or at least near) his prime who was a complete football player from the head down. Good shit.
I'm a lot more excited about the addition of Forte than I was about Tomlinson coming to the Jets. Yes, Forte is 30 years of age but he doesn't have the type of mileage on his body/legs as L.T did once arriving to N.Y. Tomlinson had 2,880 rushing attempts & 530 receptions before becoming a Jet. Matt Forte has 2,035 rushing attempts & 487 receptions before becoming a Jet. That's an overall difference of 888 total touches. That's a very big difference in terms of an HB's total usage and mileage. It's an even larger difference when including the playoffs due to L.T having 96 rushing attempts & 19 receptions during 7 postseason games compared to Forte's 42 rushing attempts & 13 receptions during 2 playoffs games while with Chicago (a difference of 60 touches). Coming to N.Y could rejuvenate Forte as a Jet and could very well have lots of gas left in the tank. Having a productive Powell who's coming into his own as a backup could really keep Forte refreshed. Having Forte both catching out of the backfield as well as in pass protection is going to help Fitzpatrick a lot (as a QB) when compared to having Ivory within those two situations. And you just know Forte's excited to have Brandon Marshall's run blocking as a WR on the outside (once again).
I'll be keeping a close eye on Thomas and Harris on the DL as well as our young backup LB crew Bishop, Stanford. Dozier looked bad last week and I'm hoping Ijalana/Qvale/Shell step up so we could cut bait with Breno and use the PUP on Devin Smith.
