imagine if gholston worked out, he would of been that d-lineman pass rusher we so despertly need, it was the right idea tanny, but what a bust.
Yeah that's the worst part, one of the main missing pieces is a dominant pass rusher, sucks looking back at the 08 draft. There really isn't a standout pass rusher in that draft class. If we had known what we know now we could've gotten Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Desean, or Ray Rice. I hate looking back at drafts. lol At least we got Keller in 08. and Lowery. Only real notable players, Ainge too but he's a druggie. That was the beginning of the WOODHEAD era as well.
We haven't needed a D-Linemen pass rusher since we switched to the 3-4. I say it over and over again, I don't understand how people don't know this by now.
If we got Chris Long and St. Louis got Gholston, I think they would have both been above average players. I blame the Rams for not picking a player that fit their scheme before us, leaving us with one that didn't fit ours.
Well that would sure explain why Gholston doesnt seem to be on the field that often. Maybe they intentionally tried to keep him from activating that bonus so that Rex has one year to try to develop him before cutting ties. think I remember that there wasnt really that much of a benefit to cutting the Ghost this year (unless the bonus gets activated) so its possible this is just to buy Rex a little more time.
Its just not possible in my mind that we couldn't. I am positive we had the option, we chose to select Gholston. right behind us at #7 NE traded down with New Orleans for Sedrick Ellis, and at #8 the Jaguars traded way up in an effort to get Derrick Harvey, they gave up 3 or maybe 4 picks for Harvey, Baltimore meanwhile ended up with Flacco, Tavares Gooden, and traded a 4th (from Jax) to acquire Fabian Washington. Oh and they drafted Ray Rice in round 2. You can't tell me we couldnt have accepted the exact same offer from Either Jax or NO to trade back. We just simply decided not too.
Chris is having a decent year, he's breaking out in the breakout year while Vernon continues to be mediocre as hell. Long still would have been a good OLB. His change of direction was great and he played the position at Virginia.
Really? I didn't know that, haven't really payed attention to the Rams at all....well I still blame the Rams for not maximizing their pick for us and them.
I remember the morning of the draft, Cimini posted that he heard whispers that the Jets were interested in Jonathan Stewart at #6. While that may have been a reach it's a safe pick and Stewart is sick.
I don't disagree. My point is simply that nobody should be claiming we couldnt have traded back if we wanted too. Because the next two selections were trade downs. So we had options, we just chose not to take them.
So basically the title is saying because Vernon Gholston only has 1 sack, he's gonna get 9.1 million dollars for it? Man, the things I would give my left nut for....
Let's be fair to Dewayne Robertson. He was a serviceable and solid DT worthy of a 4th or 5th round pick. Can't say that about Gholston.
:sniggers: How sick are you boys going to be when hes still here next season ? This season hes done what hes supposed to do without being spectacular. But then has any of the D line? My gut feeling is, hes back in 2011.
