People who are waiting for Gholston to become servicable are fooling themselves. this guy is a bust of enormous proportion...worst than Blair Thomas. So let's just get that out of the way. Getting McGinest is a smart move while crackhead Pace is suspended. But we may have a replacement already in camp in Marques Murrell I belive this guy will shine this year. Felt Mandummies buried him to to force Gholston on us. But no more the best will play this year.
Didn't we have one of the supposed top Ds going into next season? One guy gets caught out and now we're totally doomed , lmao.
Whatever you say pal. I just call them as I see them. If the Jets are going after a washed up old done LB when they have a young Vernon Gholston in line to replace Pace it just shows that the Jets have zero trust in Vern's abilities. It seems from what I have been reading here that a lot of the fans at this board tend to agree with me.
I know what you're talking about. We'll be taking a big hit. Im not sure for how long though. Im not sure if his remaining guarantee money is $18 mil, but its around there. Wouldn't it just get divided on the subsequent years as dead money? It did for Pennington atleast. If thats the case, we'll be taking a hit of about $4-5 mil a yr. for the next 4 yrs after 2009. His base plus guarantee obviously equates to more than the guaranteed. We'll be saving his base salary to say the least. The only thing Im not sure is, when and how much of a hit we'll be taking. In the long run, if we already know Gholston is not even worth keeping on the roster, then cutting him now or as soon as we find out is the better option. By saying now, I mean cutting him after 09. Or maybe even after 2010, once we are assured of what he can bring to the table. Having said that, I think he'll manage a roster spot on this team. It can't be that bad.
Only psycho ppl will agree with you. And since you're the only psycho on this board, then only you agree with ur opinions. Let me tell you whats up: The Jets were already thin at the LB spot. Once Pace got the suspension, they got even thinner. Let me tell you what I think the Jets are interested in Mcginest for. McGinest isn't coming in here to be leader on this team or anywhere near it. He'll be coming in so he can assist in different packages Rex wants to throw out there that only Pace we good at it. You gotta be a little bit more smarter than a Psycho to understand the situation.
This question is a no-brainer: Yes! The Jets have nothing to lose by bringing him in for a tryout in TC. He has the experience and he's only going to cost the vet minimum for his services (4-games). Even if we keep him only for those four games the financial cost will be minimal. Let him try his best to make the team, teach the younger LB's (Gladys!) and when the final cut time comes around, if we don't have anyone as useful as McGinest(physically), give him the ax.
There is a big difference between cutting him tomorrow and cutting him 2 years from now. Cuts taking place after June 1, will allow the dead money to be spread over two years, rather than over the single season. That said, Gholston's garunteed money still left is far to much to cut him now. two years from now, correct me if I am wrong here, but after his 3rd year he will be down under ten million in garunteed money left, and then it will be much easier to absorb the hit. But we are stuck with him until at least following 2010, unless we blow everything up and decide its ok to just throw between 13-18 million dollars away that can't be spent to improve us. That said the chances of us blowing everything up (again?) before Rex's 3rd year is over, would certainly appear at this point to be very slim.
Thats exactly the point Im making. I don't want him gone at this point, regardless of what he brings to the table. We need to give him time and see how it plays out. He's not going anywhere in 2009. It would be good if we can keep him for 2010 aswell and release him before the 2011 season IF he doesn't pan out. If he is good enough to make the roster simply based on his talent, let him play out the contract. No point in taking such a hit if he was to make the roster to say the least. His cap hit right now is around $18m. Next yr is 14 and in 2011 its about $10m.
I'm not willing to give up on Galdys yet but if we can bring in someone at the position to mentor him I can't think of too many better than McGinest to do that job at least...unless we can fleece Mangini for someone like Kamerion Wimbley.
Willie called the Pats to come back, and if the Pats have shown little or no interest (which appears to be the case), and they are much thinner at the position, on paper at least, than the Jets, then they have to believe there is nothing left in the tank... It would seem counter-productive to bring him in for 4 weeks anyway. That playing time should be for finding out if they are gonna get anything at all from Gholston... Besides, they are probably gonna bring 50 year old Junior Seau back in November anyway.
I would take him for the simple fact that he is a champion and knows what it takes to get to that level.. and he is a good player as well to match... we need some veteran leadership out there...
Geesh, the Cardinals FO and fans were not sad to unload Pace, and everyone here thinks his suspension is a big loss??
So in games vs NY, you will bench him because the situation says he has only been in 3 games out of 20 where has has won...
He manned the outside well for us last year. Now we have a hole there for 4 games. What's not to understand?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you didn't watch very much Jets football last season.
