If he enables Leo or others to get to the QB, and bags 6-7 himself, he'll be a good pick, but I don't think that's going to happen in his first season. I really wish Macc had taken someone who will make an impact Game 1.
There was literally not one player that is more likely to impact game 1 than Q available. Mac did exactly what you wished he did.
No, what I wished he did was trade down. I'm hoping for the best with Q, but until he actually does it, it's all just speculation. As to the trading down - or NOT - given the rumors that he might be considering giving up a kings ransom to trade back into the 2nd round, his decision to not trade down is looking questionable.
Because I don't believe he will make an impact Game 1. You do, and maybe you're right, but until he actually plays we won't know.
Then who do you think would make a bigger impact game 1? I liked Allen as a fit but I’m not going to pretend he is a better prospect . Q has combine numbers that have only been matched by very few, all good to great players and the film to match.
On the Jets, as currently comprised, I think Allen was the better pick. I'm not saying that Q. Williams isn't better, but the Jets already have Leo and do not have a proven Edge. If they wind up trading Leo, then it makes more sense to me.
To quote Bruce ariens again, drafting for need will get you fired. In a salary cap sport you have to take the talent when it is that much better.
Snacks, Wilk, Sheldon did not live up to expectations. In part because we had Quinten Coples coming 'off the edge', allowing o-lines to dlb team our interior guys. Snacks was/is a demon in the middle and destroyed the short yardage game, but was not great at chasing down the QB. In fact, of our 3 interior men, Snacks demanded the most dbl teams to prevent him from blowing up the pocket (teams will have the same problem with our new batch). Wilk was unmotivated and is no longer on the team. He hated dbl teams and would take a ton of plays off. And he played hurt a lot. Leonard Williams is twice the player Wilk ever was. Big Cat has gotten dlb teamed on 80% of his plays (see Anderson's surprise production). Sheldon was our best D-lineman we had who was forced to drop back into coverage more times than he was allowed to rush the passer. Getting Sam dulled the pain, but Sheldon was my favorite (speeding tickets, bongs, hand guns, and all). Williams, Anderson, Williams will destroy the pocket. Polite off the edge will eat em alive. Adams/Mosley on blitzes will feast.
