Why wouldn't he be a threat to take Sanchez spot? Henne and Sanchez are both mediocre NFL QB's, one is not that much better than the other.
because he is a mediocre QB that the FO has nothing invested in, the other is a medicore NFL QB that the FO has a lot invested in.
You also love to hate on the Jets and never give them credit. Looking to trash them at every moment. Most people on here have just learned to ignore you.
You do it well, so it's hard to pin down, but I'll take a shot. You do it The Patriot Way. Pats fans, over the years, have typically begun to fashion themselves as technical experts on all things quarterback. Your constant gravitational attention to Sanchez versus the rest of this Jets team speaks to that. So, knowing the Pats fan reverence and obsessive acknowledgment to the quarterback position, the constant suggestion that a team needs to replace their QB is skin to an Arab showing a man the bottom of his shoe. Or at it's pinnacle, throwing that shoe at a man. It's also an effortless argument to make. The Jets have a lot of holes, and you are only exploiting one. You must have a fantastic love life.
Sure the Jets have holes, just like all the other 31 teams in the NFL. Even with those holes, with average QB play down the stretch, the Jets finish 10-6 or 9-7 and are in the playoffs. Mediocre to poor QB play in the NFL will hurt a team more than any other holes they have.
Who cares? How did all those top flight free agents help the Eagles this year? The teams that get the top flight free agents rarely win anything. The teams that build an organizational philosophy and draft and acquire guys that fit within that philosophy are the ones that win. The Jets were on that track I think, and then in pursuit of winning they made a lot of bad moves and compromises that came back to bite them. I think you'll see a drastically better team this year, regardless of what players we do or don't sign. -X-
If this happens we might wanna reconsider going back to a 4-3 here and sign Freeney. Former Titans LB Keith Bulluck, a long-time friend of Dwight Freeney, says the veteran Colts star has no intention of converting to outside linebacker in the new coach Chuck Pagano's 3-4 defense. "Dwight's thinking is, he ain't standing up," Bulluck said. "Dwight's had his hand in the (ground) for 11 years." The Colts can save $14 million of Freeney's more than $19 million against the cap by releasing him, but Freeney doesn't expect that to happen. Keeping the Pro Bowl pass rusher on the roster at that rate would be like decking out a jalopy with a Rolls Royce hood ornament.
Absolutely nailed it. You said it way better than I could have but it is so freakin funny that Patriots fans are suddenly experts of the Quarterback position just because Tom Brady happens to play for their favorite team. I guess its because its the one thing nobody can argue with that Tom Brady is good. Therefore when trolling on other teams websites you can breakdown all the *reasons THEIR team's QB sucks or something - They can't reply with "hes better than Brady" obviously. I don't know if Sanchez is the answer or if the Jets need to bring in someone else but I do know that patsfanTX doesn't know SHIT about the QB position. Do they have good chowder in Texas?
Teams that aren't committed to a starting QB are going nowhere in this league. The QB position, unlike every other position on the field is not a piece that can be replaced on the run through competition. QB's are developed by repetition not competition at the professional level. The Giants stuck by their guy and now have a QB and a team that's substantially better than the Pats team and QB. That's not an accident, that didn't happen because of QB competitions, it happened because they drafted a QB with great skill sets drafted talent around him and gave him continuity with an OC and a good offensive plan. That’s why the Pats can’t compete with the Giants and need to re-think their entire team to take the next step. They believed in their QB's skill set and never looked back despite the bumps in the road. Now I recognize Sanchez doesn’t have near the skill set Eli does but obviously management had a plan in mind when they drafted him that his skill set fits their needs. Now isn’t the time to give up on that. This management drafted Sanchez, believe in him and have to move forward with him. If Sanchez fails the next GM and HC will make the decision on the QB. If this group bails on Sanchez they are sending a message to the team that their own judgment is bad and they will not get the rest of the players to buy in. Rex has to make it clear that Sanchez is the guy and if the other players aren’t comfortable with that get rid of them.
The answer to the OP is "No, because NFL free agents generally aren't crazy full-emo Jets fans who both love and hate their team in equal measures".
