He wasn't even that good this season and he would not have done much to help us out where we had holes.
I just threw up. Giants were 13-7 and Superbowl champs. If the Jets were Superbowl champs would you be saying they finished 9-7 like that?
True, especially for what we'd have had to pay him. Cromartie for the most part was fine, we can't tie all our money up in corners when we don't rush the passer and New England has two young TEs we're going to have to eventually cover. Point is over the season they were one game better than us, including the game they beat us where we dominated them from scrimmage most of the game. It's not like we're that far off, if they can make a run like they did so can we. Of course we won't get Atlanta at home, it will probably be at Pittsburgh again or whatnot.
Safeties, but who? Where do we get the guys who can neutralize the huge TEs? I don't know who is available, but that's a tall friggin order. Another LB, how about at least 2 LBs, I want an every down pass rusher, what Pace was supposed to be (and Maybin will never be, even on the Rex Ryan diet) And Bart Scott, I love the guy, but he really is getting old, and even though we may do okay with the depth we have in the middle, another big run stuffer with some cover speed couldn't hurt. The D-line itself, I would be satisfied with keeping what we have, please pay Pouha. I agree on needing a guard, but not a FA. I look at Brandon Moore, 2 surgeries on his hips in the offseason and missing weeks of practice late last season because of deteriorating hips, he may not make it another 16+ games. But that can come in the draft. RT goes without saying, and that would be the priority FA position of need IMO. With Cumberland coming back, I wouldn't be in any hurry to look at TE in FA. Maybe by late April, we will have a better idea of where he is in his rehab and whether he can be the legit #2, I don't doubt he will be. As for WR, I am going into the draft with fingers crossed that we take at least 2. There is so much depth, you will have guys that are sure 1st rounders in other years going in the 2nd and 3rd. And I have had it with the veteran divas. RB, that can be addressed in the draft, lots of late-round gold to be had; especially since we already have 3, not counting LT. So my assessment of our FA situation, we really need a RT, forget the cost. The rest is either the draft or not a priority for overpaying. The asterisk being, I don't know how great the FA class at safety may be. If the guy that can get the job done (stopping Gronk) is out there, go ahead and outbid everybody for his services.
There is no way we get shunned, the majority of athletes crave the NY spotlight and teh Jets will be in the market for 1 possibly 2 big FA. Woody will want to make a splash and the one thig we can guarantee is it won't be quiet
Are there really any top flight free agents we care about? We have too many holes to blow the budget on one guy.
Brandon Moore is probably the most underrated RG in the league. Even the Patriots Media fellater, Peter King said so. Even in a 3rd down role, LT still has some athletic moments. Its only this year he started to slow down but he was pretty damn good in 2010 for an "old guy". However, his recognition is in reputation now more than before.
i dont think so. two factors: 1) rex is hell of a salesman and 2) its NYC which means any high profile player will get their $$. i think we can get what we need in FA/Draft. If we happen to snag a high profile player in that even better.
Understatement of the year....we came out of this season looking like a joke. Fighting on the field, imploding in the last few games of the season, selfish indivduals coming to light, horrendous offensive line play, deer in the headlights Qb play. The main concern is the out of control locker room....Def not a great situation to be in if your looking to bring in top flight F.A.
I don't necessarily disagree, but just out of curiosity what is your definition of a star? A top 5 talent in the NFL? Or how the media perceives them? If so, Brick certainly belongs there. With that said, who do you think is a star on the Pats? Do you consider Mayo to be a star?
Here's a good question Giants have about 20+ free agents should Jets be looking at Giants especially guys like Kareem McKenzie or Aaron Ross, who might get low-balled by the Giants and might want to stick it to them
The 1st and 2nd All Pro teams are a good indicator of NFL "stars". Mayo is a decent player, but a long way from star status. Brady, Gronk, Welker and Wilfork are the only stars on the Pats.
I think it all comes down to, is the pay right. And does anyone step up to be a vocal leader. On top of that it's really all on Sanchez and if they think he can win a SB.
